What gets to be more of a problem then round rotation is actual magazine maintenance. Mags need to be cleaned and oiled just like the rest of the fire arm and springs allowed to relax. Rotating ammo normally reminds people to do this.

My Pmags and Lancer AR-15 mags don't need to be lubed and unless they get really dirty, like if I dropped one in mud or sand, don't really need to be cleaned. If they do get really dirty I just take them apart and wipe them down with a clean dry rag with out any solvent or oil. My HK pistol mags (with one exception) are the same way. Like cleaning and lubing, mags spring maintenance varies depending on the mag. Some mags need to be exercised, unloaded, and/or rotated and some mags don't. This varies a lot even with the same gun. Depending on the manufacture some AR-15 mags need to unloaded and rotated while other don't. I usually rotate my AR-15 mags just because. Now my HK USP 45 10 round brady bill mags (that one exception) springs can only stay loaded a month or two before encountering slide lock back issues. Also they need regular cleaning and light lubing to ensure the slide locks back on the last round. When the brady bill ended and I was able to get the 12 round USP 45 mags all those issue went away. I can run those mags dirty and leave them loaded for very long periods of time. One time I was out of country for over a year and had accidentally left some of my UPS 45 12 round mags and HK45 mags fully loaded. When I got back and realized that had happened I thought I had messed up my mags. I didn't unload them instead I took them to the range still fully loaded and tested them. To my surprise they all worked flawlessly and I have never had an issue with them. It really boils down to you knowing what your firearm needs and doesn't need when it comes to cleaning and maintenance.

Speaking of mags, Nuntfancy recently posted a vid on AR-15 mag reliability.
No ground breaking info but I still found it interesting.

Did some modifying to the 870. New magpul furniture and a low profile mag clamp with a rail for my tac light (tlr-1 hl).

LOVE it! I'm considering an 870 or Mossburg for my next build. I've got a few shotguns already but nothing I would consider "tactical" I want to build one and get one of those shelves that have a case drop out of the bottom to hide it in the bedroom, or a slide-away mirror.

I want to try trap shooting this year. I wonder how this 870 will do. Hahaha.
I met an ffl on my delivery route last night. Got to talking and he invites me into his house and shows me his gun room. Very cool guy. Picked up a spas-12 off his shelf and handed it to me. Good lord that gun is cool. |

Been aloooong time since I last seen a SPAS-12. Been almost as long since I heard talk of one. They quit importing them in '94. The new version is SPAS-15. Only about 180 of them was imported. Had an 8 round box mag. If you can find a SPAS-12. They're going for about $3000.00

A spas-12 is on my firearm bucket list. They're just too cool.

I think I saw a few spas-12 on gunbroker. It looked like an elephant on his rack next to all his other rifles.

The Spas-12 is definitely one of the best looking shotguns out there. Sad, that's really where most of its appeal ends. It's got movie cred, but it's also crazy overpriced and finicky to boot.
You're better off just going with a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870. You can't beat the price point or the reliability. For what you would spend on the Spas, you could turn your 500/870 base into just about anything. And still have plenty of cash left over for shells. What the deuce? I go to see a movie and there's a big ol' no weapons permitted sign. Then we go to a store and they have the same sign. I feel horrible I had to violate someone's "store policy" twice today.

I did change out my carry ammo today. I love fresh shiny rounds.

Long as I got my permit on me, you can't see the gun, and no metal detector. I walk in. Schools, work, and court houses. The gun stays in the vehicle.

Exactly. Same here. Just waiting on my new holster so I can carry the smaller pistol. That XMD is a monster on my thin-*** frame. Summer concealed carry is a no-go with that thing. |
