Depends on one's eyes. I used to use the iron sights on my AR-15 but, since my eyes have gotten worse, I now use a scope.

I don't even use my red dot ecotec to 100, I flip my x3 scope over. I have great eye sight, I just like to see as close up as possible.

Ok impulse buy maybe. Last night I looked up the cost of uppers, lowers, barrels etc etc before going to a gun show today. I pretty much decided on a Spikes Tactical lower and the wife loved the Honey Badger online! Well what do you know we found it and cheaper than online from them for only $110. I wasn't really sure what I wanted in an upper but I kinda knew the rough cost before going to piece one together.
While at the gun show the manufacturer Scott from HM Defense was there built right here in Ohio. He went on and on about their barrel design like 3x honing vs like Noviski's 2x, manufacturer process vs others etc etc and it all sounded great being way better. They make the barrel, flash hider/muzzle break, BCG, hand guard, upper, everything etc. At the gun show their base uppers were only $599!! I opted for a nickel boron BCG from them and longer 14" hand guard for $670 total with tax. I can't touch this price building one my own with similar components! Their whole guns were in the $1200-1500 range but that was only at the show for today. He said tomorrow they'll go up $100 and online they're more. He prices their stuff fully loaded with billet CNC upper and everything one day to be around $2500. That's Noviski and LWRC prices. I'll have to get it together but so far this thing sounds amazing and I'll support local for going above and beyond!! http://www.hmdefense.com/html/why_hm_.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r7wHMg5Yjg

OK I'm trying to get some advice and it seems I can't seem to get a answer.
I bought a truglo red dot. It was cheap. I want to put this on my cmmg 22lr. The red dot has a integrated weaver style mount. From what I read weaver mounts can be mounted on a picatinney rail but not the other way around. The upper has a flattop pic. Rail with a A2 front sight. I want to absolute co-witness with my red dot. I assume I need a riser to do this. Not sure if I need a half inch or inch riser. The red dot seems to be high already. If I do need a riser I'm thinking about getting this riser http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OYW...pf_rd_i=mobile Or another brand like a utg. Is this the right size height mount? 2 by 2...hands of blue

With shortages coming again I've had to buy some new power and new loads. From the loading handbook below I've tried H322 but being pretty fast it shot only ok with my 68gr Hornandy's with 22.3gr of powder. So I moved on.
Next I tried AA2230 and fell in love using my 68's at 23gr of power. It shoots great, burns pretty clean, nothing bad to say except stepping up to a 75gr Hornady it's not shooting as well. From the chart again you can see the AA2230 may just be to fast for the heavier round. So on to a new powder. Now I've bought some AA4064 to use with the 75's. From reviews it seems to be just like the IMR 4064 but better and obviously the slowest burn out of all 3 of my powders. But there's no loading data. Now from the chart you can see the IMR 4064 and Varget are touching for the burn rate. I do have loading data for the Varget in 5.56 you can see from the second pic. Im planning to use 3 loads from 22.5-24.5gr of AA4064 with the 75's. Anyone have thoughts?

Ooo boy that's kinda scary. Just loaded up the first 20 at 22.5gr. Because the AA4064 is big cylinders unlike the AA2230 which it tiny little balls, even at the low end of 22.5gr you hear a crunch with every bullet being seated. Some I can't even shake the powder inside and hear it bounce around. I'm not even sure 24.5gr will fit inside with the 75gr Hornady.
Thoughts?

That's a little creepy for sure. Wonder why it is made in such an unfavorable fashion for reloading. Might want to look into a different powder. And be very careful with that first shot.

What do you mean by unfavorable? Lol to late, have 2lbs of it now. It's not the first I've heard. TAC or Varget I remember reading crunches too.

Unfavorable as in the medium isn't small enough to load up to a desirable weight. Should be a smaller format to fit more. Kinda dumb. Well good luck either way. |
