As promised, here are some pics. In serious crash, I am sure the shelf would become airborne. Hopefully, it doesn't hit me in the head. In the car. There is

In the car. There is no interference with the storage door.

I really like it, I wish it was a little more concealed.

Finally got my AR put together yesterday. Drove to a friends house who had the upper and the tools. Then we went to a private range and sighted it in. It's got the DPMS upper with Magpul furniture, iron sights and a Leapers UTG red/green dot scope. It was a very windy day, but I think the gun is sighted in well enough for 200 yards.

I think she's pretty in her own special way. The gun feels really good.

There's a metal plate down there somewhere. I used the iron sights and hit it about 30% of the time.

Unfortunately we in Sweden don't have the freedom with firearms you guys in the States have, and have to jump through a load of hoops to get our firearms licenses.

I have a SIG P226 Tacops that is my main IPSC Production gun, a self built AR-15 for Open Rifle (HERA Arms upper & lower, Geissele trigger, Geissele rail system, BMC charging handle etc. etc.), Remington 700 in an XLR chassis for my long range needs, assorted .22 competition (olympic style) pistols, a S&W 686 etc.

We can only dream of concealed carry (not even remotely possible) but at least we are allowed to defend ourselves in our own homes against armed intruders.

In my state, you have to have a permit to purchase before you can buy anything. That means the local police do a background check (probably a quick query) and give you a card that's good for a year. I got a Sig RS390 9mm and the AR15 lower receiver this year so far. I think I'm good for a while.

A permit to purchase is only required for pistols and "assault-style" rifles in this state.

Haven't your legislators read the US Constitution? 2nd Amendment says you can have guns; 10th says the states have no voice in the issue.

Move to Arkansas. We do a background check but it's while-you-wait and only takes 10-15 minutes. We're also an open-carry (no permit) state. We love our guns in Arkansas.

It's not that big of a deal for me. I think it took less than 2 weeks to get my card, and I wasn't in a rush to buy anything. I have several guns.

I'm pretty sure the states need some sort of basic requirement to protect their citizens with the background checks. It's federally mandated.

If I'm buying a gun, I've already gone through the checks. Hence, I show my card to the seller when getting the gun.

Minnesotans love their guns, too. Lots of hunters here.

Sweden is a small country with a pretty homogenous culture. Homicide rate is, what?...one homicide per 100,000 population per year? Although the aggravated assault rate is significantly higher in Sweden than the US, is lack of concealed carry a detriment to personal safety in Sweden?

You live in Minnesota? If so, you don't need any permit to buy a shotgun or rifle.

Going more deeply into the causes behind it would probably spark a massive flame war here, so I'll just say this.

Sweden isn't really just that homogenous anymore. Especially the city I live in. And that has brought with it lots of assaults, robberies, rapes etc. etc

My better half has been the victim of two attempted rapes, for example. Neither of the perpetrators were ever caught.

I personally would feel a whole lot safer outside if I could conceal carry, and she sure would. Sometimes, she does, when walking the dog later in the evening, even if it is not allowed.

Interesting. I appreciate the perspective. The basis of the Constitutionally-guaranteed right to bear arms in the US has its roots in English Common Law going back centuries wherein the right to self-defense was acknowledged as a "natural right"... a fundamental human right. The framers of the Constitution were very thoughtful in including it in the Bill of Rights on that basis. They also knew that if it was indeed the right of the people to throw off a tyrannical government, those people would need the tools to do so. In England today, you can't even buy a steak knife.

Interesting the way these cultures evolve.

SmoothZ is mistaken. In his state (Minnesota) he only needs a permit to purchase handguns and "assault-style" rifles. A carry permit also serves that function. Shotguns and rifles only require the usual NICS point-of-sale check - no permit required.

Minnesota is also an open-carry state (permit covers open or concealed). Otherwise, Minnesota gun laws are substantially less restrictive than Arkansas.
