Anyone here into firearms?

It's the design. Glock and other polymer handguns have completely integrated designs where nothing is being screwed into the polymer. The only high stress part are the frame rails and on Glocks, metal rails are cast into the polymer.

The only polymer AR lower I found to be capable of "real" usage is the now defunct Cavalry Arms that had the integrated pistol grip and buttstock. With no metal being screwed into plastic, it is very durable and one of my favorite ARs due to its lightness. But one drawback of the Cav Arms lower is the non-adjustable length of pull and fat grip.

Thanks for the response. I have an AR15 that I picked up back in the '80s and have been thinking about upgrading it (I'd love to get rid of the handle). Looks like plastic isn't much of an upgrade.

That's very discouraging. I'm wondering why they even make them if it's such a problem. Like I stated, I read good and bad things about this one. Seeing that this will be my first, I'll see how it goes. I can always order a different lower in the future if I'm not happy with this one.

That sucks. I just bought one from Ares armor.
I haven't milled it out yet.
What they should is have metal surround the weak point of the lower. That would strengthen it.

My guess is use the poly lowers on 22lr based uppers. That might help.

So I finally bought a mosin nagant m44. I didn't want to buy one at first because of the corrosive ammo that mainly people use. It seems like a pain to use cause every time u shoot with it u have to clean quickly.
And non corrosive ammo is pretty expensive.

I also bought another SKS. A Chinese version.
That damn SKS is caked in comoline. My m44 is not as bad but I never had to deal with cleaning cosmoline off.

Hose it down with Windex at the range then oil when you get home, enjoy the cheap ammo!

I've read that u can use windex or the purple simple green bit not the green version.
Anyone know why?

If I use windex I assume I would need to spray the chamber, down the barrel and all around the inside chamber area and probably the magwell I assume.

Instead of oil I rather use froglube. Personal preference.

Any suggestions on how to get all that Cosmo off on the SKS?

Strip the rifle down and boil the metal parts in a pot of water. The cosmoline will melt and float to the top and your parts will be fine.

For the wood stock, wrap it well in newspaper or paper towels and then put the entire thing in a black garbage bag. Put the garbage bag in strong sunlight for a few hours. The paper will wick the oil out but you may have to change dressings a few times to get all of the oil.

I've heard the same technique for the wood and wrapping it with newspaper, then putting it in a bag outside.

That's what I did then I put in the trunk of a car that I have that sits out side 24/7. I ended up changing out the wrap 3 times think before getting almost all of it out of the wood. Btw put a but pad on the gun because it will sweat out more when you go to the range the first few time from the heat against your shoulder.
