Yeah, I am becoming a lot less gung ho about an AK especially since if I were to get the good caliber it would almost defeat the reason for owning an AK. Instead I might buy a Ruger Mark III Hunter which in my mind would make a superb target and survival firearm. Colorado is rich with squirrels, rabbits and ground hogs and I can carry 2000 rounds in my back pocket (which would cost $8.99 at Walmart). I could use it for food and use my AR for the two-legged predators in some hypothetical survival situation. Plus both types of ammo are plentiful in the US.

Speaking of buying AND building an AR; Here is the final incarnation of my new LMT gas piston rifle:

16” LMT Defender 2000 MRP CQB gas piston
Geisselle Super Semi-Automatic trigger
BCM Gunfighter charging handle
BAD *** (safety selector) lever
Troy Industries Ambidextrous magazine release
Magpul MBUS Front GEN 2 sight
Magpul MBUS Rear GEN 2 sight
Magpul RVG front grip
Magpul BAD lever (ambidextrous bolt carrier release)
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul aluminum trigger guard
Magpul CTR Restricted butt stock
Trijicon RMR red dot scope
BattleComp 1.5 Black Oxide compensator

Last week I purchased a post 1950, pre 1968 Walther PPK, in 7.65mm or 32ACP. I have wanted this since I read and watched James Bond as a kid. I have had many PPK/S and 380 ACP pre and post 1968 models, but this is Bonds Caliber.

I told a guy what I just bought and said you want to buy my WWII PPK for $25 less? Heck yeah.

So in one week I accquired two PPK 7.65 pistols, after waiting forever.

I played that game. Arsenal SA-M7. Sold about a month later. Not my bag.

My .02?

Do it right and SBR an M4.

Go with 300AAC, suppress it. That gives you a 0.5-1.5 MOA gun that is quieter than an M5-SD with subsonics, offers AK-47 ballistics with superior projectiles and ballistic coefficients in supersonic, and gets a very efficient powder-burn in 8.2" barrels with either flavor. Epic win with no downside.

*However*

I chose 5.56 because I like the flatter trajectory out to 300 yards and it will handle my needs just fine.

My father and I have been shooting for years, and I already own a Kel-tec RFB, Mossberg 500, and rem 700 in 300wm. I was looking for suggestions on which handgun. My dad has an HK USP that has the nastiest trigger I have ever used so I don't want to go that way. I found a screamin deal on Sprinfield Armory lightweight operator 1911, are they any good? I know SA is a premium brand, but I have never actually had any range time with one.
I played the 1911 game, too. Les Baer (TRS, factory Hard Chrome), Colt (80-series, my Dad owns it), Wilson Combat (Tactical Supergrade).

All of these have proven unreliable and my Dad keeps his for sentimental reasons, I sold him the Baer because he doesn't care if it jams or not and how crappy the workmanship on it is as long as it looks good on the outside and is accurate, Wilson bought the Supergrade back from me after the 3rd warranty return.

Now? I sold my Gen 3 Glock because someone at work wanted it REALLY BAD! So I made a buck. One thing I noticed is that every now and then it would eject cases right back at me, barely missing my face. FFWD about 6 months and I am looking at Gen 4's to replace it. I read on a bunch of forums that THEY do this, and what do ya know? The late 3rd gens did, too! Explains that...

So, after a few conversations with MD Roberts on the issue, I am going with an M&P 9c. If the trigger sucks after 1,000 or 2 rounds, I will just drop the APEX parts in and all will be gravy. The accuracy issues are with the full-size M&P's. Not a single issue with the compact series, and from what I hear, S&W is handling up on the full-size, now.

The civic is practical, reliable, and easy to maintain. The 1911 is more like the Testarossa of the gun-world. Looks like sex, but I wouldn't take it on a road-trip unless I had a spare car following me, and maintenance takes an artist.

I wouldn't own a 1911 again. No point to it. As a defensive weapon, there are far better choices out there that don't have a single stack mag and thumb safety. I could see it as a hobby gun.

Depending on your use, I'd recommend HK, S&W M&P, Glock, Walther. Stay away from Sig - quality too far down the scale these days. S&W, they had some issues with their earlier M&P barrels in 9mm, now fixed. Glock, has multiple issues with their Gen 4 and later Gen 3's relative to ejection. The current Gen 4s are working better, current Gen 3s still problematic. HK and Walther, especially the Walther PPQ...very highly regarded. If I were you, I'd look at the Walther PPQ.

I have an M&P 9L with a DCAEK installed and a fitted Storm Lake barrel. It's an extremely accurate and reliable handgun. My Glock 19 Gen 3 is reliable and pretty accurate, but annoying for its erratic ejection. I have a new Apex "Failure-Resistant" extractor for the Glock on order. Early reports from the beta testers are good. We'll see.

I've had my Range Officer for a couple months now and I'm already over it. :|

I'm over my G17, too. I've got some use for the 19. 26 and my Kahr see the most action.

I keep hearing about the PPQ. Do you have one? Have you handled it? How does it compare to the G19 for 4:30 IWB carry? The butt is what prints the worst/most likely on my old Gen 3 G19. How does the PPQ fare?

I don't have one, but I've shot it. That one had the best trigger out of the box of any handgun I've seen. I found it to be easy to shoot well, good grip axis so easy to keep on target, grip angle very similar to my Glock. The grip is more rounded so it feels like it fits my hand better (with small backstrap). The PPQ just feels like a better handgun, more solid, better put together. The Glock is kind of a funky conglomeration of parts, and dry firing it leaves me with the impression that it's likely to be a piece of crap. Yet...for whatever reason I shoot my G19 as well as any pistol I've ever owned. Even so, for the money, I'd skip right over the Glock in favor of the PPQ if I were to do it again. You'd have to be OK with the trigger guard mag release.

I have no idea how the PPQ might print, but the back of the butt is undercut and more rounded, and the back of the grip is farther under the rear of the slide. My buddy didn't have a holster for the PPQ, so I don't know how it would carry, but given the grip location and shape I'm guessing that the butt wouldn't stick out as far. The part of the Glock that shows the most is the lower rear of the butt. Comparing a PPQ to my G19, their overall dimensions appear to identical, but the shape and location of the grip make a big difference. I like it a lot. If it weren't for what I consider to be a decline in Glock's quality of design and reliability, I'd consider them equally functional for me. But especially given the current state of Glock, I think the PPQ is significantly superior, based on first impression with only about 200 rounds behind the PPQ.

I have little experience with IWB carry, so I can't really give any kind of informed opinion on how it might work in that role. I'd guess that the grip would sit lower to the belt line and therefore print less, but it's only a guess.

The super grade 1911's that shoot 2" groups @50+ yards are not the WWII looser tolerance never jam type.

When I carried a 1911 daily I had a regular no frills version. I have numerous model 70 Gold cups, had two Les Baer's, a Wilson, and an Ed Brown. They are like your AR, Ferraris in a clean environment. Not so great in a dirty gritty environment like the M1A or M14.

I like Glock but get a bigger bullet. A .45 comes pre expanded. At least a 40 S&W. All you'd need is a drop in bbl and new mags.

With that said my friend used a Beretta 9mm and one shot one kill (head). So you will have a gun (9x19) in a gun fight .

I think this is similar to the HP debate.
