Sigh... I keep going back and forth between 17 and 19. I'm going to rent both this Friday and see which I like better.

Be careful. That reminds me of an ad I once saw:

06' Suzuki GSXR 1000 - $10,000 - Farmington , UT 84025

2006 Suzuki 1000. This bike is perfect! It has 1000 miles and has had its 500 mile
dealer service. (Expensive) It's been adult ridden, all wheels
have always been on the ground. I use it as a cruiser/commuter.
I'm selling it because it was purchased without proper consent of a loving
wife. Apparently "do whatever the f*** you want" doesn't mean what I
thought. Call me, Steve. (801)xxx-xxxx

^haha been there done that. It's not a fun to get what you want and then have to turn around and give it away lol. If I'm not mistaken there was a guy who bought a Z on this forum and had to sell it cuz he didn't get approval first lol.

That isn't so crazy of an idea at all...for the price of one H&K or a good 1911 you can buy two Glocks. I think that is why I went with a less expensive 1911...I was like "Damn, I can get three H&Ks for the price of one Wilson Combat!".

Are you looking at the Gen 4s? They have adjustable backstraps.

Yep, Gen 4. I think I'm going to only get one right now. Probably the 19 because I remember it feeling better in my hand than the 17.

Interesting thread at M4Carbine on ejection/extraction issues on the Gen 4 and later Gen 3 Glocks. To be sure, a lot of it is classic Internet mental masturbation, but erratic ejection really is a hallmark of the later Glocks. I have both a G17 and a G19 and both will put a casing on the bill of my hat with fair regularity.

Skimming through this thread will shed some light. Don't try to read it all.

The most famous problems were with the recoil springs on the Gen 4. Replacing them has pretty much fixed that problem, but the ejection problems remain. Randy Lee (Apex Tactical) has had hit-or-miss success with replacing the extractor relative to stopping the stovepipes, but the ultimate solution to kicking those casings well out to 4:00 where they belong appears to be lowering the ejection port too. He just moved Apex into a new facility and is still setting up so they're not doing any work just yet, but he's looking at developing a new machined extractor (instead of the current MIM version or the previous cast design - both of which have been problematic) as well as offering slide milling services.

I'm relatively new to Glocks but I confess I find the erratic ejection annoying. I don't get as worked up about it as some of the ninjas over at M4C, however, as long as its not associated with malfunction.

i dont know if this applies to glocks but from what ive seen in 1911s if you go with a lower weight recoil spring, it keeps the slide back longer when you fire.
shouldnt this have stopped the stovepipes?
im surprised changing the recoil spring didnt totally fix the stovepiping issues as well

im relatively new to all guns, just info ive heard and tried with my 1911 in competitions

My G26 will spit a casing back at my face every now and then. Never had a stovepipe, though. Sometimes I'll walk out of the range and a shell casing will fall off the top of my head.

I may be fortunate, but I haven't had any extraction issues at all with my Glock 19 Gen 4...after I purchased it I brought it to a gunsmith (who is a Glock guy) to make sure I didn't have the faulty old spring assembly.
