I have wanted to buy a 1911 for a long time now and have been considering a Wilson Combat or something similiar, but the more I thought about it spending $3000+ for a handgun may be silly since I don't know if I will like shooting it a lot. S&W has always been a brand that I have had a lot of respect for, but I have never been compelled to buy one, but after doing a lot of research on 1911s they moved to the top of my list. Unfortunately after calling around town for a few weeks it seems that S&W 1911s don't stay on the shelves very long, and the ones with the light rail seem to be even more desirable.
So the other day I went to the gun shop/range to shoot a few rounds and there it is...the exact model I have been wanting to check out. I was really struck by the beauty and the quality of it and since they were offering a 15% discount for range members I decided to buy it on the spot. I have put only 50 rounds through it, but it operated perfectly and it is definitely a pleasure to shoot. I really like the fish-scale slide grips, the external ejector, the wood grips and the Trijicon tritium night sights. The finish is by far and away the best I have seen on a 1911 IMO. On a technical note, I have read/seen reviews that indicate that the ejector retaining pin will move down after many rounds fired and eventually impede the operation of the slide. I was planning on applying some loctite but was pleased to discover that they remedied the issue by using a roll-pin. So far I like it a lot and I am glad I didn't wait to buy a 1911! Magazines are such a gimmick. $27 for each 6rd mag. Just ordered four of them.

That is one of the big things going for a 1911 fan, they have SOOOO many to choose from. The brand I was first considering was Kimber...they make some purty guns.

Took the CM9 to the range last night. Put around 150 rounds through it. No FTF or FTE. Slide did not lock back after a couple early empty mags, but that's common during the break-in apparently.
Shoots really well. I like the trigger a lot. Very smooth. Going back on Friday to finish the break-in. Probably at least 200 rds of FMJ and then a box of 50 124gr Gold Dots. It's definitely loosened up some after just 150.

I need to keep it 9mm as that's the round that I stockpile. After the 19/17 I think I'm going to start getting into other calibers for fun, like one of the S&W .45 1911s and a German Walther PPK...

I have (access to) a 9mm 1911. Colt 70 Series.
I might buy a good optic for my AR and wait on the new Glock. Not sure. I don't really get a chance to shoot the AR much. But I know if the zombies come I'll wish I had an Aimpoint.

Maybe I'll just get both.
BTW, I'm sort of the opposite of you... the 19 is a perfect fit for my smallish hands. The 17 would have the benefit of greater capacity and a slightly longer sight radius, but I'm not really sure how much of a difference there would be with the two. Maybe I should rent them next time I go to the range. One of the major pluses of the 19 is I could easily carry it if I wanted to, whereas the 17 would probably be too big. The 19 would probably be pretty good at OWB carry in the winter.
