i live in LA county. I asked a gun store about CCW and they gave me a reason that there's too many cops in this county so they feel there's no reason for citizens to have the need for CCW which is why you can't get it.

I just took my HSC test today and one of the questions was about CCW. I got the answer right when i chose something like "it is impossible to get CCW"

Brings to mind the old joke:

-Q: "Why do you carry a gun?
-A: "Because a police officer is too heavy."

Or the other old saying about carrying a gun..."When seconds count, the police are only minutes away".

The last one is my favorite because it's so true. Unless you're super lucky the cops are almost never there when you need them.

Something to try - the heavier the buffer, the more it mitigates the recoil impulse. There's no need to get all fancy - the Spike's buffer is OK...about the weight of an H buffer. Its powdered tungsten is supposed to be more effective. I have one around here somewhere...it's just snake oil IMHO. Any old H or H2 buffer will do. Some people recommend a spring from Tactical Springs (Sprinco). I use them (blue) in rifles I build, but I doubt they're that much superior. OTOH, they're pretty cheap and well made.

Relative to recoil management/muzzle climb reduction, first step is a mid-length gas system, which you have. Next would be the heaviest buffer your rifle will run, H, maybe H2, maybe even H3. Third would be a compensator. If you really want to go balls out, skip the stupid hydraulic buffer (IOW, ignore that silly doofus from 'Sons of Guns') and consider a VLTOR A5 system. You wouldn't need the stock, but note that with the A5, the receiver extension is a little longer and your stock will lack 3/4 inch from closing all the way to the end plate (which really doesn't matter since it's unlikely you'll ever shoot it all the way closed). On my Noveske Light Recce (midlength), I have use a BattleComp compensator (by far the best balance of compensator vs blast/noise) and an A5 spring/buffer/extension. I let a buddy (LEO and firearm trainer) shoot it and after shooting he looked at the upper to make sure it wasn't a .22 upper. Very soft-shooting rifle that gets back on target very quickly.
Cool, that is some great info. I think after I get back from my business trip I will go to Bowers Tactical and weight all my buffers since none of them have any markings on them (weird, I have seen the "H" stamp on others). After that I will probably buy a couple different weights and take this baby to the range. After that I will decide if I wanna flip for the Battle Comp depending on the performance...I have eyeballed those for sure.

Thanks again and I will let you know!

If the buffer isn't stamped, it's probably a carbine buffer. Replace for sure, IMHO, especially since it's likely that that lighter buffer is banging the end of the receiver extension and the BCG is taking more of a beating than it needs to. They're only about $20-$25. No need to do anything with the spring...carbine spring is fine. Some weaker ammo may not cycle an H2 buffer, but I shoot almost entirely PMC Bronze and have no problem. There are a lot of variations of gas port size, gas length, and BCG mass that all go into a mfgr's decision as to what buffer to include, and a carbine buffer is just easier because it's less likely that they'll get complaints back about short-stroking, not to mention that a carbine buffer is a lot cheaper.

I don't know if this was ever posted here, but here's a repeat if so:

The National Gun Victims Action Council is trying to organize a nationwide boycott of Starbucks on February 14 because of their refusal to ban guns in their stores.

Starbucks Promotes Pro-gun Agenda Gun Victims Action Council

The other side of that coin is the "anti-boycott" planned by The Truth About Guns (TTAG)

Starbucks “$2 for 2A” Appreciation Day Going Viral | The Truth About Guns

Bottom line, consider buying some coffee at Starbucks on February 14. And consider paying with a $2 bill.

But, please do us all a favor....don't open carry. Such an in-your-face political statement is counterproductive. Concealed Carry means just that...conceal it, even if your state allows open carry. No need to get everyone all upset, just quietly affirm your rights, and show Starbucks that you support their decision.

This state (Minnesota) has an interesting take on businesses banning guns. A very specific sign has to be posted, and the statutes not only specify the wording, but also the size of the sign, and even the font used. Anything else makes it pointless. And, in fact the signs are pointless anyway, because even if you carry a weapon in a store that is posted "no guns", all they can do (if they catch you) is ask you to leave. If and only if you refuse to leave, they can call the cops, who in turn can come and ticket you with trespass, which is a $25 dollar fine, and has no bearing on your permit, present or future. Most Minnesotans that carry concealed just ignore those signs if and when they encounter them, and that would include Starbucks, if they ever change their mind.

I'll definitely be stopping by Starbucks on the 14th.

so I think I'm going to pass on the SA 1911 Trophy Match because i want to be able to shoot more and 9mm rounds are just cheaper than 45s.

What do you think of a 9mm 1911 like the SA Loaded?

any other suggestions on what I should be looking at for a 9mm?

PS: my uncle just told me that he's mailing me a bunch of 9mm ammo for free...woot!

It's a Colt 70 Series Combat Commander. My dad bought it in 1980 I believe.
