Yes, my firearms get thoroughly abused. I confess that I'm not very concerned about the cosmetics.
Cool, thanks for the info. May have to check that out

I have both the MTAC, and the Crossbreed. Personally, I find the Crossbreed more comfortable.

I would consider the Crossbreed if it wasn't for those damn crosses. They'd open up to a whole new market if they would offer the holsters without.

In other news, I sort of screwed up my MTAC a while back. Wore it while kayaking (stupid) and the leather got wet and reshaped, so it doesn't have the retention it did before. Should probably wet it again and try to reshape it.

Good call, but before you do, check this little guy out, it's on my short list to T&E and either sell or keep, depending on results.

Like a mini-glock, lol. I hope they run 100%. If so, will be my next handgun.

If you MUST get a 1911, I strongly recommend a Wilson CQB if you're after a full-size. When my Supergrade wouldn't run, Wilson refunded my money on it. Les Baer just thumbed their nose at me when my TRS refused to run/looked like some idiot milled the frame with a drill press and rat-tail file in a prison work-shop, etc.

I hate 1911's because I think they are full of foibles and a relic of the past, so I cannot advise ANYONE to buy one, but if you must, Wilson Combat WILL! make sure you are satisfied. They even offered to build me an entirely new Tactical Supergrade, but I just told them "no thanks, I want to go buy something else" because they had gone over mine 3 times already, once when they made it, and twice more for repairs, and it just kept ******** the bed.

However, they made things right, and are a great company. I bought from Joe Rankin, just google him and Wilson Combat. He has great prices and is easy to deal with. I feel bad for asking him to refund the gun through Wilson for me, but business is business, and I didn't pay $4200 for a gun that had to go back to the factory twice and still wouldn't perform correctly.

I am pushing for the Kahr, even if I have to pay for it.

The Kahr CM9 is also an option... just have to get our hands on one first.
See if she will go for a 9mm. The 147gr loads that are now available, like the RA9T expand at low (sub-combact barrel) velocities, and don't "snap" hard, it's more like a push, and very controllable. Stay away from the 124 and 127gr +P and +P+ stuff, she might be really turned off by that, depending on the type of personality she is.

That's part of why I love it. It's pure function. There is no art to it, just function. When it's all on the line, that's what I want. You don't send an artist into battle, you send in some meathead with a big gun and lots of muscle who's bent on killing the other guy. That's kindof how I view my Glock, in a sense. It's not going to make anyone oooh or ahhhh over the trigger, but it's meant to keep me alive, not win a pageant.

My observations:

Very gritty action, rust in the chamber upon delivery (very light, and no, it wasn't brown packing grease/cosmoline). A little rust/bluing remover fixed that, and running about 200 rounds through it slicked it up VERY! well.

It's not a pretty gun, the front-sight is a hair canted (3-4*), but it's a brick out-house, and it will hold a 12" pattern at 40 yards with Federal 8-pellet Flite Control reduced-recoil buck, along with shooting slugs to same POA as the buck.

I really like it, and it's a good gun, the Glock of shotguns, as it were.

The mag-spring is weak, though. See about getting a Wolf upgrade or something. (this is for the full-length tube guns)

Problem is, you're the first one to be shot in case of criminal action in your vicinity. I mean, who would you shoot first, if you were holding up a 7/11? The guy with a gun, or the guy without a gun. Since you're not going to shoot everyone you see, you have to wait until you notice someone pulling a weapon out to shoot you first, what that means is, THEY choose the time, THEY choose the location, because YOU are REacting to their ACTION. You lose, every time, unless they just fail at life.

That is why I feel that you should either CCW, or not at all, regardless of the law about open carry in your area.

I love the feel of 1911s for a pure range or display gun. They just look great and feel great to me. And of course the design has a lot of history.

The problem is size for concealed carry, which is why something like the Ruger LCP would probably work best. She'd likely have a higher carry % with a gun like that over a pocket 9mm, which is still considerably larger than the LCP.

She is a fine shot, though. 2" groupings at 7 yards with my G26 with both the 115gr FMJ target rounds and 124gr +p Gold Dots.
