This will be my first .22lr and i've been thinking a lot about getting one. It seems fun to plink all day
![]() I have a piston ar15 (pof). I noticed that its only for use for DI ar's but on cmmg website it states that i can just remove the piston parts which isn't a problem. DIRECT QUOTE from CMMG's website: ("Note: For Direct Gas Impingement AR-15's. Not compatible with Gas Piston Systems without removing the piston. Only for use in 5.56 NATO chambered AR-15 rifles.") So my question is what are the pros and cons for buying the conversion kit instead of a full complete upper other than the cost savings? Will my rifle get more dirty (I assume it would if it gets really dirty i may opt for the complete upper)? Will it be less accurate compared to a regular dedicated upper .22lr because of the twist rate? Shortened the barrels life (if you shot a lot of .22lr and 5.56 ammo) and may add up cause it's so cheap to shot .22's. I was thinking of getting a full upper cause i already have spikes ar15 lower and a trigger system already and i would need is a butt stock and maybe few other accessories. If i chose to go with the complete upper instead of the kit, cmmg has upgrades to the upper. Can you guys explain some of these upgrades and if it's needed? well i don't care for the handguard upgrade. But not sure what some of these other upgrades mean and if it's a good idea to get them or waste of money which im not trying to spend a whole lot. But if it's a good idea i will get it. Also is this upper the new evolution or the upgraded version from the previous upper? Bolt Upgrade Upper Receiver Upgrade Collar Upgrade Handguard Upgrade Rifle Kit Upgrade Bolt Hold Open Actuator Upgrade Here's a direct link of the upper upgrades CMMG complete upper Can you guys suggest any other decent .22lr uppers other than cmmg? I was looking into chiappa barrels .22lr but one guy said that it has a fake forward assist and fake flash hider. Not sure about the quality of this company. But it's pretty cheap (under $300 for an upper). Any suggestions and advise would be great cause i'm pretty serious of getting one. Thanks.

To be honest I'd be tempted to try the Kel-Tec PF9 for $299. It just felt nice in hand and was a good size for a compact single-stack.
The Ruger is a fine gun, though. I know a lot of people (myself included) have knocked it for the safeties, but if you're used to thumb safeties then it really is no big deal. The huge loaded chamber indicator is slightly annoying (I think it encourages people not to manually check the chamber as well), but overall it's a very well built gun with good ergonomics. Very concealable. The DAO trigger is also very nice. It's long, but very smooth with a clean break. I think if I go after a pocketable 9mm myself I am going to go for the Kahr CM9. I love the Kahr triggers. But I do understand they are very tight and require a good break in (haha).

Interesting. I sure haven't read a lot of good things about the PF9. Amongst the quality problems, I have read that it has a trigger that rivals those hang grip trainers.

Yeah, same here. I was surprised that it felt as good as it did in hand.
The trigger seemed OK. Ruger's is better. The trigger guard is also too small on the Kel-tec. I would be interested to try it out, though. I'd get one "just because." If it works well, w00t, another toy for only $299.

Took the LC9 to the range today. 300 rounds of Federal Champion and 14 rounds of Speer GD 124gr +p later and no malfunctions, even limp wristing it. The only issue was I only got to shoot it for maybe 50 rounds... she had the rest.
It's a very snappy little thing. The checkering on the front of the grip hurts after a while, so we ordered a Hogue slip on for it to see how that feels.

So, this thread has sort of died off a bit... new topic...
What is your carry ammo? My G26 likes Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p JHP. Super reliable and accurate round for me.

I use Winchester RA9TA (127 +P+) in my G26, and RA9T (the 147gr std pressure version) in my longer-barrel 9mm glocks. Gold Dot is an awesome choice too though, and it's what I'd use if my supply of the above ran out and I couldn't find more to buy.

If I couldn't find any more Gold Dots I'd really want to give those RA9TAs or Federal HSTs a try. They look really interesting.
