Also found 1 box of 100 pieces of .338 LM Lapua brass for $277. So I got got one box of bullets and 1 box of brass from Powder Valley. Prices sure have gone up.

Ain't nothing 'inexpensive' any more. We can thank the morons in Foggy Bottom for that...

I've been tossing around the idea of a Springfield Armory Saint pistol lately. Or a Ruger 22LR Precision rifle that I can shoot in the NRL 22LR matches.

I suggested the P80 because I need some help with the milling part of mine. I have a difficult time drilling straight holes and getting a mill lined up right to do the milling part. Having monocular vision is tough when I have to do precision work.

Got some new play tools. The first one is a Teslong 5" screen bore scope. Always thought I was doing a good job on cleaning the bores. Found that the last 6~7 inches still had copper on the lands in the .338.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Next play tool is a air pump that I will use as a barrel cooler. Only cost me $11.99 vs $60 for some others. It pushes more air than the MagnetoSpeed unit that my friend has.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Last, I got some Wilson Case gages and the Case gage Depth Micrometer. Will use these to set-up my FL resizing dies to get a more accurate reading.

Ah yes, "The Right Hand of the Free World" Can't go wrong with the FAL aka: SLR. (Name is dependent on who made it.) Been wanting to add a FAL to the collection for awhile.

If my research is correct, the M16 you probably got to use were Colt Armalite M16 / M16A1. Most likely first gen left overs from the US which weren't that good. According to my research there was a short transitional period with the M16 before NZ Army decided on a new rifle. NZ "officially" went from the SLR to a variant of the Steyr AUG which has been phased out not too long ago for a piston driven M16/M4 variant made by LMT called the MARS-L.

Pistol wise your were probably using a Browning Hi-Power. According to my research the NZ Army used the Colt M1911 (.45) in WWII but after WWII went to the FN Browning Hi-Power and used it until the late 80s. In the late 80's my research say the NZ Army transitioned to the SIG P226 and some time after that transitioned to what they are currently using, the Glock 17.

My small arms training I got in the US Navy was a joke. That's if you count 5 rounds out of a M9 (9mm pistol) at boot camp, that was optional, small arms training.
The US Navy attitude to small arms training in the late 90s eraly 2000s was meh, only gunfighters and security got training. That changed while I was in as the "War On Terror" ramped up it caused the US Navy to rethink their attitude to small arms training. Also it didn't help that I was in a rate that wasn't allowed to do anything outside of my job. Got hit with N3A a lot. (Nukes Need Not Apply) Especially as a Nuke ET (Nuclear Power Electronics Technician) we were to "valuable" to waste our time on small arms training and other duties that normal sailors had to do especially on an aircraft carrier. As we said in the Navy: "Choose your rate, choose your fate!" so I can't complain too much about my small arms training while I was in.

Oh...crap.......a Navy Nuker. If you was on a sub. I would be calling you a "bubble head". I've worked with a few of you's in the power generation industry. Different breed of a people.

When I was in the DoD. I shot just about everything you could think of because of the program I was in.

You have no idea. I was relatively normal for a Nuke. We were definitely in our own little world. Got medically de-nuked near the end of time and had one hell of a culture shock having to suddenly be a regular sailor. As an E-5 in the regular Navy I was supposed to be qualified on all sorts of things and have all sorts of knowledge and experience. I got my butt chewed sooo many times by my Chiefs because of this. Fortunately once they figured out/remembered that I was an ex-nuke they were much more understanding and helped me a lot. I was very appreciative of that.

All Navy Nukes say that they're normal. What's normal for them, is abnormal for everyone else.

Favorite? Would have to say the stuff that you never seen or even heard of. The cutting edge stuff that didn't make it. They been pissing around with a replacement for the .556 since the early 70's. The one 6.5mm was interesting. The frame work was a cross between an AR16~AR10. It was inbetween the 2. Had an electronic trigger. No hammer and firing pin. Squeegeed the trigger, and a voltage went to the rear of the casing. Then it went BOOM. So much for that rifle. Next...... This was one of the first caseless rounds. It basically got shot down because it had to use a battery to fire the round. And battery life was questionable at that time. It had better ballistics than the 7.62.

Hey, I did say “relatively” normal.
Definitely acknowledge that Nukes are not normal especially us ETs.
The ones that don’t realize it are the most abnormal.

At least I didn’t get chased through the woods by base security around Nuke School because I was hacking at a tree with a broad sword in full medieval garb.

No doubts that you got to play with some interesting things.
I vaguely remember hearing about the electronic fired cartridges at some point. Something similar to the HK G11?

Remington had a short run of electronic trigger rifles. It never caught on.
