Anyone here into firearms?

Shoot a revolver at night. Look at how big the flash is around the cylinder.

Made me realize how ignorant a lot of gun owners are about how guns, more specifically revolvers, work. So many comments like “I’ve been shooting revolvers for many years, never knew that was a thing.” Also comments like this, “I've never shot a revolver. Didn’t know about the cylinder gap.” made me realize that many gun owners nowadays have never shot revolvers. I don’t think revolvers are a dying bread but definitely not as popular as they used to. IMO general gun knowledge in the community is dying. I really can't point to one thing that is causing it. Thoughts?
It's more of a case of people that lack the 'hand-eye coordination' to fire a revolver. They are also the ones that put a laser on their Glock and can't hit a silhouette target at 15'. Those that say 'I've been shooting a revolver for years...' are usually full of chit, they can barely put rounds on target. I'm almost convinced that FB is inhabited by fools, morons and drama queens.

I grew up on revolvers, my first gun was a 6" Ruger Security Six and I put almost 500 rounds through it before I could consistantly hit the black (8, 9, 10, X) on a bulls-eye target. I knew enough to keep my fingers away from the barrel and the cylinder gap....

The first time I shot a revolver for real was at the police academy. Back then we had to purchase our duty weapon and bought a SW 686 4" barrel. I can't tell you how many rounds we went through be for qualifying but it was a bunch and many of the cadets needed multiple attempts. The first round of fire in the qualification was from 20 yards. I was happy if I put any on the target and hitting the silhouette was bonus points :eek. Most remained of the course was between three and 10 yards with and other from the 15. I am left eye dominate and so I had to learn how to shoot and reload from that side. Reloading a revolver is not left hand friendly.

My first hand gun was a Colt Trooper Mark3 357. Followed by a S&W 44 Mag. When I was on duty. I was required to carry a revolver at first. That was a S&W 4" 686. Later on, I was allowed to carry a Colt Gov't Model 70, 45 ACP after I qualitied with it.

For qualification. Needed a score of 130 out of 150. Ranges from 5 yards, 7 yards, 10 yards, 15 yards, and 20 yards. In practice, I was getting 150's. qualifying, I shot a 148. Had a flyer. Also had to qualify with a 12 ga shotgun.

Love seeing the muzzle blast when shooting my 50 DE in low light.
Not recommended to do it in the pitch black.
Did that once, couldn't see for a few moments.

I've done a lot of shooting at night. If you're reloading. A fast burning powder helps with the night time flash. A slow burning powder will give you a big flash. As it is still burning outside the barrel.

Thumb position on revolvers is more of a knowledge issue than a hand eye coordination issue IMO. One thing I think is not helping is all the tacticool/tactical elitist YouTubers, forum posters, article writers, etc. hyper focused on AR-15s, AKs, Glocks and other main stream "tactical" firearms. It's a good thing that all there is a lot of info out there about using guns for self defense and fighting for our 2A rights but I think hobby side of guns is starting to be hurt by it.

I agree, hand eye coordination does play apart in not hitting the target but also the lack of knowledge doesn't help. How to use the sights right, press the trigger properly, proper grip, not anticipating the shoot, not jerking the trigger, etc. are all things that need to be learned. Unfortunately a lot of people can't be bothered or willing to learn.

I agree there is a lot of fools, morons and drama queens on FB but it serves a purpose for me.

Oh I know the difference between fast and slow burning powders.
I only use factory loads in my 50 DE at the moment. It's a toy and it is not worth it yet to reload for it but I definitely have been saving my brass for it. Awhile back I stumbled upon standard 50AE Hornady Custom ammo for very cheap in a gun store I happened to visit. It was almost half the cost of the cheapest on line price I could find so I bought as much as I could. Still working through it.

Kind of like owning a 44 AutoMag. I shot one and enjoyed it.

Then I started checking out the ammo situation. The only company making it at that time was Norma and it was way beyond my E5 budget....

Then I looked at reloading for it... step one: Cut down .308 brass to make case... Oh fvck no.... I need my .308 brass......

I didn't grow up with revolvers but I did shoot a few before I was old enough to buy my own. My .357 Mag Taurus 608 was my first revolver, third pistol overall. A Ruger Red Hawk Hunter in .44 Mag was next. My Ruger Bisley Black Hawk in 45 ACP/45 Colt is my only other revolver. Looking to get more. A 22lr revolver probably will be next.

For S&Gs I've been working on shooting and reloading my Black Hawk quickly so I can open carry it. The thought how butt hurt some tactical elitist would get about that makes me chuckle.
