Yeah that's not bad at all. I'm sure Jerrys control is great but I wish it was included in the testing. His rifle doesn't even move.

Just finished with more research, I think I'll try this one out! and it was tested, came in 3rd, I didn't see it cause they call it a DPMS and for $38 I don't think I can pass this by!! The PA m4-74 is $89. Maybe I'll get both, one for me and one for her and give her the better one. Thanks for the heads up.

Awesome. At 100 yards for sets of 10 I was pretty much full torso all over. I'm looking forward to getting down to about a cantaloupe or close to it size.

No offense, but that's probably not the rifle's fault. At 100 yards, you should be inside the nine ring (center mass) on a man-sized torso target. I used to put rounds in the X ring at 200 yards with an issue rifle, it's all practice, and the fundamentals (sight alignment, sight picture, breathing and trigger control).

My observations:

If you are all over the target, that points out a problem with sight alignment/sight picture. Low and to the left is an issue with 'bucking' (anticipating the shot), high and to the right, jerking the trigger. There is a target out there that has those things marked off on the target, so you can focus on fixing them. I wouldn't put too much stock in YouTube 'sled tests', it takes time and practice to become proficient with a firearm, no amount of 'tacti-cool' stuff is a substitute for time behind the trigger.

An AO (adjustable objective) scope may help. And a good barrel cleaning.

I was having a lot of trouble placing decent-sized groups with my air rifles at only 25 feet. Groups were >1.5" and all over the place. Cleaned the barrels real good (I usually just use a swab; used a brass brush this time) and that made a lot of difference but still not what I wanted.

Read up on technique and did some more practice but still not as tight as I wanted.

Figured out that most scopes are set for 100 yards, thus I had some big parallax problems at 25 feet. Got an AO scope that I could adjust down to 25 feet and can now fire three shots that touch each other (when the barrel is spotless and I'm having a good day).

None taken but I'm just running and gunning at the in-laws down in a river bed with a huge ravine on the move jumping over stuff. This isn't for competition for now. In the real world targets don't sit still nor do you have a while to set up. I'm just moving, raising up and firing as fast as possible and moving again. I'm happy to even hit the target through trees and branches. The brake will definitely help climb and keep the scope from bouncing though. This Saturday I'll go again with some new targets I bought that I think are like 14" circle. I can try for a 9" ring but again I'm literally just pulling the trigger as fast as possible and staying on target. If it was a bad guy he'd still be out

I did a lot USPSA , subgun matches and steel challenge matches for several years. My guess is a fraction of a second more of getting a sight picture will tighten up your group. In USPSA there is a lot of running and shooting from odd positions and angles but as long as you have the sight picture and pull the trigger correctly it not a big deal.

I thought I would post a couple of pictures of my newest. I've had it just over a week now. Still waiting for the registration certificate to arrive from the CFO before I can try it out at the range. (Yes, I'm in Canada.) So, I've disassembled it a couple of times and done the grease lube job as per Tony's video. I used synthetic bearing rated grease for the lube. And I ran a couple of patches down the bore, so she's ready to shoot. I also removed the stripper clip guide since I have no use for it. I also have a proper black leather sling being made for her.

I may mount a red-dot on the fore end rail and try that out after I try out the irons and get them zeroed. And I'm also looking at a CASM mount for an optic, we'll see. I know I got to the party late with my purchase, so if this is old news for some of you, I apologize.

Edit:
I took her out today for her first shoot. Shot 75 rounds. It took me about 8 to 10 rounds to zero the irons at 109.3 yards (here in Canada, that's 100 metres). I was shooting nice consistant 4 to 6 inch groups with the irons. I am happy with the results with this "shorty" 18" barrelled CQB rifle.

It felt "snappy" shooting 150gr fmj Federal. I'm glad the butt has a recoil pad to help old shoulders ;-)

Wink

Nice. Try some 168gr or 175gr bullets. Most of the guys I know who shoot the 308. Like the heavier bullets.
