If you have a range that lets you rent pistols, I'd rent a handful of different types and see which one you like most. It's really too subjective to get advice from other people. (Plus, we don't even know what you're using it for ... concealed carry, target practice, etc.)

SA makes nice 1911s, so if that's the type of pistol you want and you get a good deal on it... go for it!

well its my first one, so I want something basic but good, and I'll modify/buy more specialized if needed. Besides, the 1911 is like the civic of the gun world, theres so many aftermarket parts for it you can basically make one into whatever you want haha

Good buy. Practice practice and practice.
Taking a basic pistol class might be a good idea to. Learn some things and what not.

Something wrong with it? I have many HKs and none of them have a "nasty" trigger

yea not a fan of double action triggers. I just have a hard time keeping on target having to "repress". Thats why I'm staying away from the Glock. One isnt better than the other in my mind, just prefer single stage trigger

Havin fired a handfull of HK,Glock,1911,CZ,etc Iv'e found I hit best with a 1911. I've just never used a Springfield Armory lightweight operator before though, so was seein what yall thought if you had one. yea
my cousin is a swat director/detective and I have been getting alot of time from him so I feel pretty confident in my abilities, but I would like to take some classes in the future. CHL will come eventually. Whether I get a seperate carry gun or not will only be told by time and unfortunately my wallet haha.

I've got a SA Range Officer which is a pretty nice range gun. Super accurate.

All my carry guns are Glocks. I shoot them pretty well but I shoot the SA way better.

I'm not entirely sure what your looking for but for a Range Rat in Springfield Armory I'd look at the Loong Slide 5.25"

I use a "Long Slide" Glock for Range and General Pistol fun

however I have several guns for daily carry purposes

Wouldn't the ultimate range gun be a .22 LR revolver? The reasons I would come up with would be ammo cost, accuracy, (lack of) recoil...

My great uncle, when he taught my father, and then when my father taught me, used the biggest handgun my dad could hold and would random up dummy rounds. best range practice ever. afterwards, most other handguns felt graceful and a lot of bad habits happen moving up, not down. granted this is all anecdotal. YMMV

Brilliant! You have sold me...I think I will pick up a S&W .44 Mag and throw a dummy round or two in the cylinder when I go to the range. Would that be "range roulette"? It's not like I need an excuse to buy another handgun nowadays
