Anyone here into firearms?

If you ever have to use it in anger a court might think you're a whackjob if you've got lasers and lights and super sensitive trigger and bayonet on it.

On that note, I am feeling for my 1911 crimson trace laser grips. burlwood pattern. No visible wear. batteries included. Lookin to get 200 for them.

Speaking of a CCW permit, the sheriff just called me letting me know that my CH (Concealed Handgun) permit is ready for me to pick up...too bad there is a blizzard going on right now. I will be in Tampa Bay all next week, so it looks like I will be picking it up the week after.

It is good timing; I just ordered a Glock 19 Gen 4 yesterday, but it won't get in until next week. Of course I have already purchased the obligatory 33 round magazine

The customization options for a 1911 are endless...

Ha. I have two of the 33 rounders for my G26. They are fun at the range.

So I finally received the Noveske upper and lower from Rainier Arms and bought a BAD *** lever and Geisselle SSA trigger elsewhere. Since today is blizzard day, I decided to go ahead and build up the new Uber-AR:

Parts:

Finished build:

Close-up of the finished build:

I managed to make it completely ambidextrous!

Specs:

Yankee Hill Milling YHM-15 Noveske N4 lower
CMMG Noveske M-4 upper
Daniel Defense 16" mid-length, chrome-lined, 1:7 twist barrel
FailZero Basic bolt carrier group (SWEET)
Geisselle Super Semi-Automatic trigger
BCM Gunfighter charging handle
BAD *** (safety selector) lever
Troy Industries Ambidextrous magazine release
Magpul BAD lever (ambidextrous bold carrier release)
VTAC Rail TRX Extreme by Troy 11" forearm
Troy Industries Front and Rear Battlesights
Troy Industries gas block
Magpul MOE grip
Magpul aluminum triggerguard
Magpul UBR stock
Mount-N-Slot Hand Stop
Trijicon TA01NSN-RMR scope

I won't be able to fire it until after next week

Thanks MacCool for all the suggestions and insight!

Really nice rifle! Top quality all the way. What buffer and spring are you using? You should have no problem with an H buffer.

My only observation is in regards to the BAD lever. I have mixed emotions. I've used 'em, but there's a lot to be said for a standard manual of arms. Note that on occasion, with some bolt releases in particular, it may contribute to a failure of the bolt to lock back on an empty mag. If that happens to you when you fire it, first thing I'd do is pull the BAD lever off and recheck.

Ahh, thanks...you had a lot to do with the selection for sure. The buffer and spring came with the YHM lower I believe and it is the same weight as the ones that came with my Bushmaster carbines. I really didn't think about it, but now that you mention it I see there are different weights for buffers...interesting. There is this great store near me (Bowers Tactical Bowers Tactical, featuring products from Accuracy International, ARMS, Bianchi, Blackhawk, Buffer Technologies, Bulldog, CQB Solutions, Don Hume, First Samco, Fobus, GG&G, Gemtech, Global Tacital Supply, Hakko, Insight Technologies, LMT, Magpul Indus) where they only sell mostly Glock and AR parts. I bought the Geisselle trigger and lower parts from them for this rifle and while I was looking around I noticed a Spikes buffer and spring. The thought crossed my mind to inquire about it and I also was contemplating buying a hydraulic buffer, but I wanted to shoot it before making any additional investment. I would think that a hydraulic buffer wouldn't buy me much since I don't need to reduce the cyclic rate or the fact that this is a DI rifle. But now you have me thinking about the weight... The BCG is actually the full auto version from FailZero. There is more of the cylindrical portion to it than I normally see. I would think that would add some weight especially considering the inertia associated with the carrier. Like I said I won't be able to test fire this thing until another week.

I have the BAD lever on my Bushies and haven't had any issues, but that is the first place I will check if the bolt carrier doesn't lock. Thanks for the heads up!

Now that I have an extra lower laying around I will probably end up building a 4th AR...good grief! It may give me an excuse to try out a monolithic, gas-piston upper. The LMT is looking tempting....

Your midlength DD barrel has a gas port sufficient to drive a heavier buffer. If you break the rifle down, you'll see a letter stamped on the end of the buffer. If it's a "C" it's a carbine buffer and you should definitely go buy an "H" buffer. Depending on the ammo, you might even be able to go to an H2. Something to try - the heavier the buffer, the more it mitigates the recoil impulse. There's no need to get all fancy - the Spike's buffer is OK...about the weight of an H buffer. Its powdered tungsten is supposed to be more effective. I have one around here somewhere...it's just snake oil IMHO. Any old H or H2 buffer will do. Some people recommend a spring from Tactical Springs (Sprinco). I use them (blue) in rifles I build, but I doubt they're that much superior. OTOH, they're pretty cheap and well made.

Relative to recoil management/muzzle climb reduction, first step is a mid-length gas system, which you have. Next would be the heaviest buffer your rifle will run, H, maybe H2, maybe even H3. Third would be a compensator. If you really want to go balls out, skip the stupid hydraulic buffer (IOW, ignore that silly doofus from 'Sons of Guns') and consider a VLTOR A5 system. You wouldn't need the stock, but note that with the A5, the receiver extension is a little longer and your stock will lack 3/4 inch from closing all the way to the end plate (which really doesn't matter since it's unlikely you'll ever shoot it all the way closed). On my Noveske Light Recce (midlength), I have use a BattleComp compensator (by far the best balance of compensator vs blast/noise) and an A5 spring/buffer/extension. I let a buddy (LEO and firearm trainer) shoot it and after shooting he looked at the upper to make sure it wasn't a .22 upper. Very soft-shooting rifle that gets back on target very quickly.

People in cali are allowed to get their ccw's. It depends what area you live in. I'm in sac and we can sign up to get ccw's. From what i heard you don't need to have a "special" reason to get one now. I guess our newly top sheriff, scott jones is allowing to get ccw's a little easier for our greater sac citizens. There is so many people signing up for ccw's that there is like a 8 month waiting list.
