They barely beat spain and brazil. What makes you think they can beat a team with 11 HOF's

eastwest2300 08-15-2012 10:35 PM

I gotta take the 2012 team... I think they were more physical than the Dream team..just my 2 cents. The score would be close, but Kobe, Lebron or Durant would get the job done.

This thread needs a poll <poof>

bud you are talking about the dream team aka the legends, including arguably one of the best to ever touch a basketball in the nba, Michael Jordan, then you have Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Charles Big Head Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson....

I don't think I have to keep going, I mean I love Kobe and Lebron, and even Durant, but I don't think they could go up against legends, that is assuming they both played when they were in their prime, which probably will never happen, because most of the dream team now are old as hell and most likely cant run up and down the court once without having a heart attack. :bowrofl:

:icon17: Its all good bro, I just didnt see the Dream team as being all that physical, yeah they were shooters, and could pass the ball great but other than that... I dont know. The games changed since then, athletes nowadays are stronger, faster, and more physical then they were back during that time.

You must have not watch late 80's early 90's NBA. The way they played defense was tough it was like watching wwe, no such thing as touch fouls like what they call today. There is a reason why this this lil scoring point guards are having success today it's because the no hand check rule and touch fouls favor quick guards. If they would try to drive in back then they would get clotheslined and elbow in the face and no fouls will be called. IF you watch MJ drive back then he drives in full force and no flopping, because if he tries to pull off a Euro step he would get pummeled and refs back then don't call on flops, so you really have to commit to your drive. Now if you sneeze on lebron it's going to be called a flagrant foul.

The dream team had some of the best big mans to ever play the game. There is no way Kevin love and chandler can guard Barkley, Malone, Robinson and Ewing. Lebron won't be able to drive in that lane. 2012 dream team had a hard time against the soft Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol.

The link below will show how tough defense was played back then.

I think the numbers can be deceiving. The game of basketball had become so much more popular globally. I don't have the exact number but if someone can check the number of international players in the nba 20 years ago compare to now... you will find a lot more now then before. So the way this 2012 took harder to beat the other country, I wouldn't think much of that. Don't forget, you have D.Rose and Howard who both could had been on this 2012 roster. Not that I'm saying the 2012 can certainly beat the 2002 team, but I wouldn't necessary say it will be a blow out either way. Let's even break down the roster:

PG - I. Thomas/J. Stockton vs Derrick Rose/CP3 (Derrick Rose/CP3)
SG - Michael Jordan vs Kobe Bryant (MJ)
SF - Pipen/Barkely vs Lebron/Anthony (Lebron/Anthony)
PF - Karl Malone vs Kevin love (Kevin Love)
C - Ewing vs Howard (Howard)

I know I may had missed out a few players but these are the one I could remember off the top of my head. So I think they both got their share of advantage and disadvantage. We'll know who will win when the NBA2k13 comes out later on this year. LOLZ!

If you have to use the term "arguably the best"... then even you, yourself aren't sure it will be a sure thing to beat the 2012 team. Look, I'm not saying either team can win for sure. I'm just saying that I wouldn't necessary put my money on either team because they have there own share of pros and cons. Argument can be make in both way. Just look at Lebron James over as a player. You can hate on him as a person or how he handle things.. but for someone to say he's overated... that's just simply ridiculous.

nmjaxx9 08-21-2012 05:04 PM

oh no Im not downplaying the 2012 team at all, if you watched LBJ and Durant play in the finals this year, Kobes performance as always, not to mention D rose before his injury (:icon17:) they are great. However, its just the dream team (in their prime) was simply unstoppable. Like I said this matchup would never be possible because of the age difference, but that would be one game I would pay to see. seriously!! :excited:

Here's the interesting point. If we are talking about 2012 vs 2002 at that moment of their career... I honestly think the 2012 would have a bit advantage. BUT if you are talking about the players from 2002 in their own prime against the 2012, then it will be tough. And also, looking at the 2012 team, Kobe has pass his prime but LBJ and Durant and in company like Westbrook can getting better.

So to be fair... 2012 vs 2002 exactly at that moment. My pick will be 2012!

yeah at this moment yes, its olds vs kinda old and young, LOL, but both at their prime, I have to take the dream team, and in overall talent the dream team still takes it for me!

Yeah... another member posted earlier saying he thinks the 2012 are more physical then 2002. Another member respond to that referring to how the foul calls are made nowadays. It's true that calls on the NBA is so bad now. But that doesn't mean these players are not capable of playing physical basketball. If anyone who actually watch all the London games like I did, the player from other country play pretty rough. And team USA manage to stay professional and just didn't let it bother them.

Yup, and doesnt mean being ripped is being physical its also stamina and how long you can last, thats why training for playing basketball is more than just ball handling and shooting, its a lot of running and aerobic exercsie, for example look at dirk, tall skinny almost no muscle, but runs up and down the court and shoots like an expert, so you don't necessarily have to "look" physical in order to be physical.
