What Book are you reading right now?

I finished the entire Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series of books and looking to find something good to read. Anyone have any suggestions? ...and no, I will

...and no, I will not read 50 shades. That's why the internet was invented.

I read a lot of different types of books. I'm not a huge FCB fan, but the book is so well-written I've become completely engrossed.

Thanks for the recommendations. Which one should I try first?

...and yeah, I meant the series so far . The next book should be pretty good from what I've read. The 1st chapter of Winds of Winter is on his website. It probably won't be finished until 2014 at the earliest though .

Swans War is probably the most similar to Martin's stuff

Warded Man is more action-packed, fun quick read

Mistborn for a great magic system (actually any of Sanderson's work, dude's so good the picked him to complete the Wheel Of Time series after Jordan died)

Neverwhere is just out there, weird and great (same guy did American Gods)

Black Jewels series is a bit more creepy

Kingkiller series isn't complete but probably the best out of all of them

Farseeyer --- how to be an assassin - who wouldn't like that?

Live Ship (or anything by Hobb) a bit longer developing but great and satisfying series

If I had to recomment just one, Warded Man. I don't imagine anyone could not like that book and it's a quick read with a good followup (thrid not written yet but they stand on their own)

Edit: Almost forgot First Law series by Joe Abercrombie. Another great great series very much like Songs Of Ice And Fire.

^^^....very tempting.

I just picked up Cloud Atlas and still need to check out the one's Lug suggested. It's not an easy read, but it's interesting....I was about to quit reading it, but I found out it's going to be a movie.

The Bond book is awesome. I'd bought it a few months back but hadn't cracked it open. Having finished the Barca book, I wasn't sure what I was in the mood to read, other than I wanted something serious. Luckily, without knowing it, this book is exactly what I wanted (200 pages in).

I may check out Cloud Atlas after-- it sounds really interesting.

My wife showed up with a copy of this bad boy for me:

I'd mentioned wanting to re-read Jurassic Park-- I'd read it when I was in second grade, circa 1992. I enjoyed the book, but a lot of the science talk was over my head at the time, so I wanted to read it again. I've never read a book twice, so I'm hoping I don't remember too many details, despite the 20 year gap.

She found the book at a used book store, though this particular copy seems to not have been opened. It's got the sweet "SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE" badge & a list price of $5.99 US.

In the middle of Clancy's The Cardinal of the Kremlin, never get tired of his books!

I love Clancy games, but I've never read any of his books. Perhaps I should correct that.

I started The Lost World last night. Same deal as Jurassic Park-- read as a kid, but wanted to refresh.

Also picked up Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. They're my favorite series of games, so I suppose it's the best to read to determine whether I like his books.

^ noooo....Rainbow Six was good, but not his best. I would pick up "Without Remorse" or "Red Storm Rising", which were much better written novels from Clancy. Without Remorse also allows you to go to Rainbow Six; it's like a prequel of sorts.

Here's a few recommendations from me on what I'm reading:

Heaven's Net is Wide is the prequel to the Tales of the Otori series. It's A Song of Ice and Fire...without magic, and with far fewer characters. Lots of political intrigue, interesting characters, the feudal Japanese system working against a young lord who is the rightful heir to the Otori throne. Really good start to the series, I'm on book two right now.

The Way of Shadows follows an assassin through a small scale fantasy world. This was a VERY interesting read, and goes by quick. The action scenes are well thought out and detailed in their description, the characters are engrossing, etc. I've re-read this twice already.

Don't knock this one until you've tried it I've read the Japanese novel and it's excellent. Helps you study for economics too
I'll just link to the amazon here because others can explain it better than I can: Amazon.com: Spice and Wolf, Vol. 1 (9780759531048): Isuna Hasekura, Ju Ayakura: Books
