Default someone please explain.

I mean come on this is insane. you can hear these bikes two blocks away but if you put an exhaust on a 370z you are a instant target!

These regulations here in Florida can suck my ****!

Now i didnt get a ticket but how can Harley get away with the 245db exhaust?

Pickup trucks can have limo tints

Big rigs can mount and use as many lights as they want.

Different standards. They don't always make sense. I don't let it bother me.

i've always wondered this myself as i absolutely can not stand the sound of an obnoxiously loud motorcycle exhaust buzzing by especially in the morning. some chick gave me an explanation one time at a car meet that they have to be loud in order for people to know they are there which i still think is idiotic because most of the exhausts on modified motorcycles are so loud that you cant even hold a conversation with somebody in a car when you have one rolling by you and they are not even remotely pleasing to the ear to hear one rolling by at any time.

A lot of Harley people say that if you hear them coming then they are aware of your presence and therefore won't hit them. They say it is safer to have loud pipes, however I just think it's really annoying! It is what it is...

Yeah, my dad has a harley, and I MADE him get louder pipes. Simply for the fact that a lot of time you cannot see a motorcycle, no matter what brand it may be(harley, honda, etc). It gives me a little extra piece of mind that maybe next time someone doesn't see him, they can hear him, and it could possibly save his life. Before he had a motorcycle I thought it was really dumb to be so loud. Now, I wouldn't change it for anything.

Maybe they aren't pleasant when youre next to it-but man if you are riding, all that popping cracking and thundering...as good as the Z at 5k rpm in 2nd headed to 3rd :-)

and yet most sportbikes i see cruising around my area have exhausts less than half as loud as most of these guys on loud annoying harleys and i very rarely see anybody having a problem recognizing that they are there, now if you are crusuing in somebodies blindspot like you arent supposed to on a bike then i could see why you would need a very loud annoying exhaust.

BS with the loud pipes. My Kawi is not loud and I make people see me. Riding 16 years and I always have my brights on. I hate those loud bikes...they're not faster or safer.

Well, y'all can't hate on them all you want. All I know is it gives me a little more peace of mind and that makes it worth it to me.

yea its ******* bs. I had a neighbour call the cops on me and complain about my exhaust when my car was idling. The idle was abit bouncy since i was tuning but nothing major. Idle was jumping between 900-1100rpm. But yet a harley goes WOT with a loud *** exhaust and doing at least 75-100kmh in a 50kmh zone and no complaints made...total bs. One morning the dude set the alarm off to my bike, car and 2 other cars on the road.

I would say that there is a difference between being loud and being obnoxiously loud

Too many Harley guys are way beyond anything necessary

Am I to understand that the db law is higher for motorcycles than for autos? Noise is noise. Laws can be screwy too.
