And there's a huge number of apps available for pc's and any other device already.

Yes apps = software

But there is windows 8 and Windows RT

Windows RT = apps store only

Windows 8 = apps store and off the self software

What I'm saying is that off the self software will transition to apps store only except in very large powerful products.

Programs for phone = apps

Programs for computer = softwares

The problem with that is Windows 8 on a computer will run programs from the App Store and programs off the self from best buy.

That's why windows not having enough "apps" will change.

It doesn't matter, it's the same thing with different restrictions and firmware/hardware considerations.

Apps is short for applications, which mainly refers to user-controlled software. The three terms are interchangeable.

The difference is that apps are only available in the apps store for what ever device in question. iPhone/iPad has iTunes , windows now has an apps store.

When I as a customer ask "what the difference in windows RT and windows 8?" the answer is the RT only runs apps and windows 8 runs apps and software.

I believe the average person understands that apps are software, but windows RT only will run it if it came from its "app store" while windows 8 will run if from the App Store and the box off the self from the store.

My point was though I believe that as people buy more and more from the apps stores less software will be made for purchase in the store til one day OSes in the future will only run apps from the App Store.

It's all marketing and packaging.

It's nothing great or new.

It's simply brain-splitting to read someone say something as inane as "apps are better than software". It's like saying "Eggs are better than eggs."

I don't care about what service sells what. Are they pushing for more licensed and controlled software? Yes. That's what we're really talking about with "apps" on an "app store". The rest is jargon and window dressing, "bruh"

I use "apps" on phone's program and "software" on computer's program so I know we are talking about phones or computer....

After all, apps and software are all "program"...

All I can say is

Allow me to be clear.

"apps" are applications. These are user programs. These are all software.

"programs" are all software, they include apps as a subset. Other programs include drivers and scripts that your average joe doesn't ever interact with, as well as Operating Systems.

"software" refers to non-hardware. Hardware being the physical device, software is anything that tells hardware what to do.

"software" roughly equates to "programs". "apps" are a subset of "software" and "programs" All apps are by definition software. App stores sell software. Off-the-shelf software are also usually apps, because they are user-facing programs.

In other words, you guys remind me of the old lady from the Android commercials. "Is this the line for the apps?" Yes, mom.
