Default Cop story (no bashing, just funny)

It's around mid-day and the wife and I are cruising north bound on the 35. We got orders to Wichita Falls for 4 years (yay). She's driving the FX and I'm about three car lengths behind her in the Z. The speed limit was 70, but we had our CC set to 75. I figure no cop would waste his/her time with 5 over the limit... WRONG! The cop was waiting on the median and pulled out after we passed and got in between me and my wife. He put on his lights and my wife immediately pulls over. I didn't want to go on without her so I pull over too. My wife is in front then the cop, then me. I realize now that sandwiching the cop car was not smart, but in my defense I gave him plenty of room (or so I thought). I know my mistake now, but at the time I was totally oblivious/ignorant to want was going through this guys head. He exited his car with extreme caution, almost dramatic and his eyes were fixed on me. My dumb butt is so confused as to why he looking at me, I'm not the one you pulled over, do your thing so we can leave. At this point he was strafing further in to the median trying to keep an eye on both of us and not get close. So I thought, maybe if I put my hands up he'll see theres nothing fishy going on and he wont be afraid to approach the car. Both me and the cop are sweating bullets right now cause I know black man+nervous cop = disaster, AND we're in Texas(kidding lol). He's at my window, but is maintaining a safe distance and says, "Do you know what a BIG mistake it is to pull up behind a police vehicle?" I'm thinking in my head, how big?, but I must have had a blank look on my face. He then says, "Get in front of that car right now!" So, I move my car in front of my wife. My wife signed for her ticket and we pulled away. She calls me and says, "What the hell did you say to him?" "He asked me if I knew that man. I said yes, that's my husband. And he said, 'well I almost shot him.' " LOL

Moral: If you didn't get pulled over, keep it movin'.

I know there are some cops on the site. What would you have done if in the cop's shoes? I was thinking about it earlier and I probably would have just signaled the car to go away or pull ahead of the other car. Do all cop cars have those loud speakers? Maybe he could have used it. I understand he was just making sure he made it home that night, but it all seemed like unnecessary drama to me

I don't want this to turn into a cop bashing thread, but I'm glad you agree. I knew I wasn't crazy when I thought that his reaction was a bit much, justifiable, but a little over the top. Looking back at the situation, I can laugh at it, but it was happening I was like HOLY CRAP!

Hopefully I didn't open a can of worms with this thread.

Not trying to bash since we obviously need them! However, I have had many cops come up to my vehicle with their hand on their firearm, or with it already drawn. This makes me very bitter since I have not once ever been arrested, or had run ins with the law except for a few traffic violation. After your wife pulled away, did he say anything else to you?

In today's society, pulling over any car can be pretty dangerous for a police officer. Being sandwiched between two cars, even if there is plenty of room, makes it really difficult for the officer to know exactly what is going on, not to mention almost impossible to keep eyes on both people at the same time. Pulling over in front of the vehicle that is stopped is the safest method, easier for the office to watch both vehicles. As in every profession, you have the good, the bad and the ugly. Some are more laid back and friendly, others are all business.

He didn't say anything to me. He just gave her the warning ticket and we were on our way.

In case this kinda thing happens again, I'll definitely be more considerate. I understand there are lot of crazy folks out there and as a cop in the middle of nowhere with no partner you don't want to turn your back on people. I realize that now, but at the time I was confused as hell.

I can see why the cop got scared. You have to put you're self in his shoes. If the FX could have been a stash of drugs and you could have been the muscle haha. Lots of different reasons why the cop would get edgy. You two could have just robbed a bank lol

When I convoy, if someone else gets pulled over, I keep going, take the next exit with a gas stop, and tell them I'll meet em there. Else the LEO could ticket me too!

I went on a ride along with a buddy of mine a few months ago, we responded to several calls… loud party, missing child, deranged senior citizen, suspicious group of people, old dude with a crack pipe, and the scariest thing of the night by far was when we pulled a car over for a broken tail light. Nothing happened, it was just a scary feeling thinking anything can happen. All the other calls had backup except for the pull-over.

Yep, cop did not want to get caught ina possible crossfire. Also you had him boxed in if he had to get out. You are lucky he did not give you a ticket also since you were driving the same speed as your wife. A ticket for 75 in a 70 is chicken sh** however.
