Correct. The Z's 7AT is not a CVT, it is a normal automatic transmission.

Its ok for everyday driving, 2 downsides are that dreadful drone at full power and the lack of top end. I think its ok for the Altima and below but the Max most definately deserves the 7spd auto as Nissans "4DSC". I will go test drive the new 3.5 13 Altima that is going to have the highly improved updated CVT when it comes out.

Dropping off my 2010 Cube at the dealer this evening.. CVT is slipping/surging when rolling at around 60mph, with like 1/8th throttle. Acting just like this:

41k miles on it. Most all Nissans with CVT's are covered under warranty up to 120k miles luckily.

I had a 2003 Murano on a lease that started doing that roughly around the same mileage. I am not a fan of them. I will never buy another one.

For the Maxima, the CVT is ok. It transfers power to the front wheels nicely and is very responsive in "Sport" mode. I'm not a fan of the way it shifts in manual mode. You don't get that feeling & sound of gears engaging as you complete a shift.
Yes, the CVT does help maximize miles per gallon when driving smoothly.

I get better mpgs in my Z (after my mods) than I did in my Maxima. Before the mods it was about the same, maybe a slight edge to the Z.
