cars that drive themselves
Remember that story i posted about a guy in the future that had a car that drove itself?
http://www.the370z.com/lounge-off-to...new-story.html Well guess what..its coming true. Maybe the new Z will drive all by itself and the only difference between auto and manual is that in manual you get to chose the destination whereas in auto the computer does it for you based on its analysis of your lifestyle!:mad: Bottom Line - Nevada first state to authorize driverless cars |
I thought BMW already had something like this in the works -- swear I saw this on top gear.
I'm sure they'll be on the road soon enough -- there's already bits and pieces of the tech in new cars. |
Eventually (not in our lifetime) the world will be a very dull and "safe" place controlled largely by predetermined computer controled guidance. People will call it "economical" and "prudent" but it will prove to undue much of human adventure and spirit.
It'll be like that big spaceship in the movie Wall-E or the world of i-Robot. |
Honestly I dont see the point of a car that drives itself, isnt part of the reason why you drive your car, is to enjoy it? If a car drives it self, it would be like taking a taxi or a bus, no fun. :icon17:

It would be nice to have that option, tho. Sleepy commutes to work, for example.
Actually the way some people drive, I might feel safer knowing R2D2 was at the helm :ugh2: |

but to most of the world the car is just a utility to get places or get things done. As is the bicycle... the train.. the airplane... etc. |

People who see it as a utility or means of transport wasn't what I was getting at. |
I hope you all had a chance to read my story about the distant future when all cars drive themselves...not a very pleasant thought for enthusiasts like us..

one of the things i think alot of people arent reading...
some states have passed laws regarding cars that drive themselves etc etc. basically that a fully auto car, may require almost no license to operate. You can switch to manual mode and take over any time but then you would need a license to do so. So unless somewhere along the way they pass a law saying that no one can drive in manual mode... its not so bad. I would love to be able to get in a car at 5 am on monday and say airport and not give a **** till i get there... but then on a saturday morning take over and go cruising in the mountains. |

I know people who have said for months that they can't wait until we all have automated commutes. It makes me sick personally, because I'm an enthusiast, but a lot of people are hailing this invention as a great convenience for their lifestyles. To be fair, these are people who probably shouldn't drive in the first place. They're "bothered" by their commutes, so they talk on their cell phones, eat, do their makeup, all while driving. Automating those aholes on the road would be safer for us all. |
You mean I could drive to out to the bars and have my car drive me back? Sucks for you liver. :p
