Ridiculous fine for a seatbelt ticket!
I was one of the 4 passengers in the back of my friends car about a month ago and we all didn't have our seatbelts on so we all received tickets. This is my first ticket EVER and when I searched online how much seatbelt tickets would cost, a lot of sources showed that the first offense shouldn't be over 80 dollars. I got a courtesy notice that says that I need to pay the court a total of $159.00.... does this seem right? It was my very first offense.
I'm willing to admit that I was wrong to not be wearing my seatbelt and i'm willing to pay a fine but this amount seems a little suspicious to me. What do you guys think? |
Pay it and move on.

yes sir! =D

probably also includes 'court costs' or some other items. |
Just like the dealership they always find away to make ppl pay

Since California is broke they have been raised fees like crazy.
|
hmm... just seems kinda unfair and retarded to me.... its not like i'm putting anyone else at risk by not putting on a seatbelt.
i mean think about it,, would a kindergarten teacher slap a kid in the face for not tying his shoelace? the kid doesn't know better! i mean,,, sure he can trip and hurt himself but its more comfortable that way,, and looks kinda cool >=D lOL |
Sets a bad example for the people around you. You may not like it, but that's what this pansy "Raise my kids for me" country has come to.
You should consider yourself lucky. In this state its the DRIVER that gets all the tickets. You would have been in for a beating. |
This thread is everything I hate about California in a nutshell. The cop will sit across the street from a home depot or something with 20 illegals in front of it, but not do anything. But as as soon as a "well to do" guy goes by, dollar signs float in their heads and they bust your ass.

Well you could fly out of the car in an accident and cause damage. :icon17:

Just like everything in life you will find that tickets have a hidden cost. They are court fees. I once had a speeding ticket where the actual fine was $80 and the court fees were $90. It's part of life. And it's a way to fund governments (local in this case) without raising taxes.

[EDIT]Just noticed this was in Cali. Friend of mine who lives there ended up paying something $300+ for I think an out of date inspection sticker, running Texas plates and having a Texas license. |
