Why you should keep your distance when a woman is inflating her tires

From my Facebook newsfeed: In all fairness, I'm sure there are men out there who are just as clueless, but either way . . .

This reminds me of time, many years ago, when friends of my wife were driving us to New York from Boston.

The guy driving had no clue on how much air should be in his tires so every time he got gas he also put air in his tires. His wife asked me to help him because she said that he doesn't know what he is doing, I asked my wife "Is she kidding?" and she replied "No", so I got out to assist him.

He did have a tire pressure gauge in the car so I took it and check his tires for him and the pressure needle pegged to the max reading! Oh CRAP! I yelled at the guy telling him that his tires were extremely over inflated and could potentially explode in his face or even worse, explode on the highway causing a wreck. I proceed to deflate his tire back to the recommend pressures.

I wouldn't have believed that people can be this clueless out there but I have seen it first hand. If I remember correctly the gauge read around a 100PSi or so but I don't exactly remember since this was around 17 years ago. I've never driven with this couple again.

Uh, what does the typical tire pressure gauge needle max out at? Around 90-100 psi? That's f-ing scary!
