Who else here is a watch whore?

I love a nice watch, although I try to shy twords watches most people dont see all the time. I keep seeing Arcticreaver's Seiko pictures pop up top, which made me feel like asking this. Post up what you rock!

The one I currently have, I simply walked into a luxury watch shop and told him my requirements: smaller than a Citizen/Rolex (which are obnoxiously huge IMHO) and all titanium (I hate steel - too heavy). He pointed me to this one, and Im VERY happy with it.

Oceanus OCWP500TDA-1A1

A short list of features:

Auto-receives time-updates up to 6 times a day
Able to set it to time zones, rather than just "setting the time". Can have multiple quick time-zones set if I wish, and a base "home" time zone
Solar Powered
Case is pure titanium with a satin polish
Band is also pure titanium
Bezel has a titanium hard-coating on it
Sapphire crystal

Nice one, I went with a slightly different model of the same watch as MightyBobo. Mostly because I'm a tech geek that travels, and it's one of the few that had all the features I wanted, yet didn't look like a giant black rubber geeky calculator watch, if you know what I mean. This one is called the Oceanus Manta:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...anus-manta.jpg

Same basic feature set: auto sets itself from atomic clock radio signals (US, UK, EU, and JP), knows about timezones and you can store basically a home and away zone and move the away one around and swap between the two quickly, solar powered (8 minutes of bright sunlight a day keep it going indefinitely, but it can go months in the dark too), titanium all over with a sapphire lens, etc...

These 'Oceanus' watches are actually made by Casio, it's just a sub-brand of theirs. Really good electronics in them.

Me too, big time watch whore:tiphat:

I have this one, as well as a 1950 Lord Elgin my Dad bought in Japan during the Korean war, back when a Lord Elgin was a $100 watch (that's in 1950 dollars :) It has been fully restored and looks and runs great. The Seiko is the everyday watch. It is Titanium coated and is actually a dark grey in color, not black, is actually the color of Titanium.... looks good with my PG 370!

Love the Seamaster. I have seen some unbelievably low prices on this during this recession, almost pulled the trigger a couple of times.

I like the Citizen watches. My old Citizen yacht watch is in the night stand, I wore that for 18 years. I prefer to save the money, and replaced it with a Timex Indigo, forty bucks!

arcticreaver 05-09-2009 04:13 PM

i'm a seiko, citizen, and g-shock guy.

somewhere down the line, i'm going to try and find and restore a omega speedmaster 125. which is my favorite watch.

Truth :bowrofl:

Good thing is.. It also comes with a leather strap, so it can assume the roles of the work watch with a nice suit. When you need the sporting weekend watch, just swap out the leather for the links

ssqpolo 05-10-2009 08:21 PM

oh man. dont get me started on watches. if i sold these batches, i coulda bought a nice car. i have so many, i will post pics of my favs.

Watches

Do we have any watch or timepiece fans here and if so post up your favorite brands.

For me i just started to really like them, i have a few very modest watches but have a nice wish list of ones i don't have the means for currently. I really want a Bell & Ross, Tag Heuer and a Panerai.

My current watch is a Seiko Sportura....this is all I can afford.

phelan 06-25-2009 04:43 PM

Tag Heuer will always be my favorite brand, but goodness they're expensive. I think I have a Seiko somewhere at home...

But why do you need a watch? That's what cellphones are for!

u155282 06-25-2009 05:11 PM

i like timepieces. i own this one

http://www.zeichenderzeit.de/get_image.php?id=DZ4145

and a gunmetal freestyle with a blue face, but i couldn't find a picture.

m4a1mustang 06-25-2009 05:29 PM

I have a bunch of Seikos. They are all very durable however some are very cheaply made, so you have to be careful when you buy one... Lots of them use cheap folded bracelets instead of solid metal. I always avoid the folded ones.

My "daily" is a Tissot PRC100. I'm a fan of a lot of the old school Tissot pieces but think my next watch will be something of the Rolex Submariner variety. I don't care how cliché they are... the sub has always been my favorite. I'm going to get black face and two/tone silver/gold.

That's interesting because my daily watch is a Tissot PRS 200, which I have owned for about 7 years...it has served me well and still looks quite modern. Go to the orient if you want to buy a watch...I was in Hong Kong last September with some friends. There are so many jewelry stores on the street in the old downtown part of Hong Kong with used Rolexes and many other watches. I don't know enough about the subject but some of the used ones I saw for $10,000 US were apparently "deals"...I would have a hard time spending that much on a watch though.

I should have said I like some of the old school Tissots better than the new ones. I like my PRC100. Looks good and is a solid piece.

As far as the Rolex... I almost bought the one I just described about a year ago for something like $7700, but decided to wait. When the market picks back up and things are back in order I will pull the trigger.

I very much want a Rolex Explorer II, but I've got a hard time justifying spending that much on a watch.

Definitely a new style.

When I say old school I mean these designs. This is from the heritage collection so technically it's new, but it's based on an old design. :D eWatches.com - Authorized Dealer of Tissot Watches:

Pretty difficult to take a picture and get the details of the watch. Daily wearing good watch. Invicta Grand Diver

smurfblu13 06-26-2009 01:12 AM

sorry but the whole rolex thing never caught on to me.. i appreciate the zenith movements of the late rolex's.. i like omega's and such but could never hop on the rolex wagon.. i like tags though go figure lol. I have a few seikos and honeslty they are nice daily watches and keep time very well. I just would absolutely love to move into high end time pieces with sick movements. If you want to see the movements completely open check out a Richard Mille timepiece.. unbelievable. It'll probably never happen in my lifetime but just an example, and a dream lol.

^That is a preety sharp watch, how much do these watches cost, like those Oceanus watches at the top. The last time i bought a watch was in highschool and it was called a Swatch, does that sound right. Way old school.

nogoodname 06-26-2009 09:11 PM

i looked at the fossil web page...prices are from 80 to 150 dollars

but i couldnt find that one in the pic
