So I was sitting in my apartment...

... & heard a jet afterburners. I grabbed my camera & ran outside.

It wasn't a particularly good day for pictures, but whatever.

I would've had some really good direct flyovers, but my memory card was full. I had a backup, but I missed some cool ones.

few extras I got while waiting:

Something like that. Finally a benefit to living close to an air force base.

molamann 05-09-2009 11:40 AM

Which AFB?

Barksdale. There's an air show going on this weekend. I just watched an F16 do its thing.

molamann 05-09-2009 12:10 PM

Ah, I've been to Barksdale twice for... you know it, an air show.Though it was somewhat of a business trip I guess since I'm a maintainer on the E-3 AWACS.

eXo5 05-09-2009 12:27 PM

Yep blue angels... I have forgotten about those guys...

cow 05-09-2009 01:48 PM

Just took some pictures of the Royal Canadian Forces Snowbirds.

I didn't even know Canada had jets.

I get like a little kid for that kind of thing.

When I was young, I just KNEW I'd be a pilot when I grew up. Then I found out you had to go to war & **** & decided I wanted a job where people weren't shooting at me.

nogoodname 05-09-2009 02:11 PM

i do the same thing, run outside and look around while being blinded by the sun.....lol

cow 05-09-2009 03:25 PM

I grabbed a cap this time.

The new pictures are loading. Hopefully I got something interesting.

CBRich 05-16-2009 02:55 PM

I grew up a few miles from Langley AFB and these jets really are amazing. Watched the F-18s at a show and they are something else.

Pushing_Tin 05-16-2009 05:37 PM

I wonder why they didn't have the Thunderbirds at an AFB?

cow 05-16-2009 05:55 PM

I asked the same thing. Apparently they alternate each year (I just moved here last August).

While i was working at my squadron here in sand diego, we housed for the weekend some Canadian helo's which were pretty damn crazy, but the best part about it i would have to say is there "sign" or "symbol" and its pretty much basic hippie-ness with a pot leaf(instead of the maple leaf) and peace sign, was surprised they could get away with it. The japanese have some pretty cool helo's to they are like peal white with a clear coat, oh so easy to clean. they just hose it down and call it a day.

cow 10-02-2010 08:25 PM

Haha, that's awesome.

PapoZalsa 10-02-2010 08:53 PM

Flew there a lot back in the mid 80's to go to NTC in Ft. Irwing.

cow 10-03-2010 08:18 AM

I'm moving away from that apartment at the end of the month (moving to a house in a different part of town). I'm going to miss living there during the air show.

shadoquad 10-03-2010 10:12 AM

lol, cow, I can totally relate to this experience. I was just telling XwChriswX last week that right before the football games last Sunday, I had to run an errand, and the USAF National Guard was flying A-10's overhead. It's just extremely cool.

schrack150 10-03-2010 10:34 AM

ahh i was stationed at barksdale working them airshows always sucked!

ThoriumHotdog 10-03-2010 12:52 PM

Nice. I lived near the Air Force Academy in Colorado for a few years. They put on some amazing air shows for graduation. I've seen pretty much every plane they flew from stealth fighters, stealth bombers, big ol' cargo planes and tons of those puny gliders they train in. :) I miss it.
