I've offended people with humor. I'm usually enough of a man to apologize when I do.

I did mention that an apology is appropriate. You can be sorry about someone's hurt feelings whether their attitude towards what you said is justified or not. But, this doesn't mean you necessarily admit that what you did was wrong or even, in fact, that you would take it back.

edub370 09-16-2011 10:39 AM

i would like to chime in for a second and take a vote of all those who dont give a sh*t about who is to blame/ why someone apologized/ or just genereally that this thread is surviving based on us arguing like children... all in favor of this vote say "yay". all opposed....

But the option to do so is completely his decision. And just because he decided to handle it that way doesn't mean he was bullied. :icon17:

racist jokes are against forum rules I believe, so no, that would not be appropriate. And anyway it is a false analogy. A joke about stumbling and banging you elbow might not be offensive, but a joke about falling off a cliff and being impaled might be, but they are both about falling.

Anyway, I agree. Dead horse. The OP did what he believed was right and that's likely good enough.

No. It was conjecture on my part that he apologized because he was bullied. He was bullied. The two threads are proof of that, but you are right that it doesn't mean he apologized for that reason.

Zags, you're a lot of fun. Seriously, you keep me entertained.

Context is important. As George Carlin once said:

"Ohhh, some people don't like you to talk like that. Ohh, some people like to shut you up for saying those things. You know that. Lots of people. Lots of groups in this country want to tell you how to talk. Tell you what you can't talk about. Well, sometimes they'll say, well you can talk about something but you can't joke about it. Say you can't joke about something because it's not funny. Comedians run into that **** all the time. Like rape. They'll say, "you can't joke about rape. Rape's not funny." I say, "**** you, I think it's hilarious. How do you like that?" I can prove to you that rape is funny. Picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd. See, hey why do you think they call him "Porky," eh? I know what you're going to say. "Elmer was asking for it. Elmer was coming on to Porky. Porky couldn't help himself, he got a hard- on, he got horney, he lost control, he went out of his mind." A lot of men talk like that. A lot of men think that way. They think it's the woman's fault. They like to blame the rape on the woman. Say, "she had it coming, she was wearing a short skirt." These guys think women ought to go to prison for being **** teasers. Don't seem fair to me. Don't seem right, but you can joke about it. I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke. What the exaggeration is. What the exaggeration is. Because every joke needs one exaggeration. Every joke needs one thing to be way out of proportion. Give you an example. Did you ever see a news story like this in the paper? Every now and then you run into a story, says, "some guy broke into a house, stole a lot of things, and while he was in there, he raped an 81 year old woman." And I'm thinking to myself, "WHY??? What the **** kind of a social life does this guy have?" I want to say, "why did you do that?" "Well she was coming on to me. We were dancing and I got horney. Hey, she was asking for it, she had on a tight bathrobe." I'll say, "Jesus Christ, be a little ******* selective next time will you?""

I don't think I've lived long enough in Austin to be a Texan, but I accept your surrender.

:happydance:

Now we're all one big happy family again. Yipee! :tiphat:

UTAMAV 09-17-2011 09:41 AM

BTW, *sigh*, and I'm sorry for being history police here...as I know probably all of you will gag at this post. The Texans didn't surrender the Alamo. When Santa Anna raised his red flag, signifying no quarter for any defenders of the Alamo, William Travis responded with a shot of the largest cannon in the Alamo. So Santa Anna sent about a fifith of his army to the north wall under General Cos, and killed all but 5-7 people in the Alamo. Some of those folks were murdered.... the rest were women. Santa Anna gave them a blanket and 2 pesos (seriously) and told them to go and spread the word about the Battle of the Alamo. Santa Anna even "graciously" offered to adopt one of the kids that survived.

Now in order to keep this post on topic. I am sure someone in Santa Anna's army was drinking tequila...while driving the horse drawn Cannons. (sorry it's been a long 16 hours at work, I'm high on caffeine :eekdance: and I'm blabbering)

Yeah, I knew that didn't sound right.....I have been on the stinkin Alamo tour WAY too many times that I wish to admit, and all I can recall is that people were killed....and no one spared. Besides the famous 2 pesos and an adoption story. But I got my info from The Alamo
