Why do people cover their license plate when taking pics??
Please explain this to me. Besides paranoia whats the reason...
I get you dont want someone getting your plate number, taking the time to get all your info, driving to your location, and stealing your car, or one of your mods... ^^As I type that I already knew how stupid it sounds. I put over $20k in my 350 and never cover the plates. Am I suppose to think someone from New York will research my plates, drive down to where Im located, then break into my car to steal it. A lot of you have enough info on your profile to find out where you live... |

Privacy, that's about it.
Also, if you say that you have done "this, that, other stuff" and your license plate is displayed in your sig, there is a possibility of cop trouble. I remember a kid who went like 150 in his turbo Neon but it didn't show his face in the video, but the cops somehow traced the video to his Dodge Neon forum name and his license plate was in his sig. Then it was all hell for him after that.

No need to cover really, especially since its pretty much out there for all the world to see anyway. I blur it out if its not my car in the pic out of courtesy. People sometimes steal images off the web and use it so sell products without their consent, so blurring it out at least saves you the possiblity of tracing something back to you.

Paranoia and privacy. Other folks put pix of my car and plates up, and it upsets me.
But when I post pix, unless it's a custom tag, I blur out the plate out of respect for other ppl's privacy. And this is all I'm saying on this subject, since I've already faced verbal abuse repeatedly on this site for defending my position. |

^Same here, I don't see any concern with having a license plate showing in a picture for my car but remove the numbers and letters of other people's cars as a courtesy. Also, having all the letters and numbers can draw the eyes away from the rest of the car in a photo which is another reason why I remove them to allow more focus on the car itself.
So who cares what other people do? Why does it matter to you?

I think, when I had my car, if I walked out one day and my rims were gone I would assume it was someone that just saw my car around the city and followed me. I figure your in more danger of something getting stolen by just driving locally. The odds have to be one in tens of millions to have something stolen BECAUSE you didnt blur your plates or cover them. Youd have to have something soooo unique and valuable to have someone go out of there way to research and travel to get to it.
