"Lets see what that POS has"

Cruising yesterday, feelin' good. The girlfriend is with me, its sunny and 80 degrees with a slight breeze, windows down, jamming to some tunes..and all of a sudden I hear this nasty noise to the right of me. I look and see this NASTY old body style monte carlo ss revving his engine up at me. I am currently going about 45 in a 45, looked over and stared for about 5 seconds and returned my eyes to the road. Finally he says the words that went straight to the adrenaline plug that exists in my body and pulled it "Lets see what that POS has!". At the light he gave me the finger and turned right. 15 minutes later I am at a stop light and a guy in an old body style Ford pickup that was falling apart was doing the same thing. Revving it up (thing sounded like it was .3 rpms from falling into pieces), sure enough his tires squeal at the light and he takes off. I didn't race the guy though because I am usually not big on street races.

Does anyone else get annoyed buy crap like this!?

Yeah, happens all the time. But still no excuse to be street racing!

Was more interested if other people get comments/remarks similar to this. Not if they like to street race or not. AND this is the perfect place to vent because the GF just doesn't understand.

Well, you could have just said that, rather than discussing how you torched a sad chevrolet mommy carlo.

I don't get a lot of negative comments about my Z. Most people either give it the thumbs up or are indifferent.

I have had several experiences of other POS (Eclipses/Spyders/Civics/Cobalts) pulling up and running along-side trying to race.

But I'm sorry, making your GF want to leave you just isn't worth the risk of getting a ticket/car impounded/accident/injury. So, if you wanna follow me to my destination, and setup a race date at the track, then by all means, I'll take your rust bucket off your hands. And if you're not sure of your car enough to do that, well then you're just admitting you know you wouldn't have beaten me in the first place.

But all comments aside, this is true, street racing is illegal and frowned upon in this establishment.

I would recommend just editing your post down to the guy talked trash about your car, (something) happened, and then he flipped you off jealous.

I had a Mazdaspeed3 try to race me once. We were right next to a police station. I imagine he felt really big when he passed me because I'm not dumb enough to race, let alone IN FULL VIEW OF THE POLICE.

Similar situation happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Some guy was parked in fron of my neighbors house. I guess he was doing some work for him. I roll into my drive way as he is staring me down. He finishes putting a handful of stuff into the trunk of his 1980s Ford thunderbird. I proceed to get the mail as I always do. He yells out "nice car." Immediately followed by, "no way it will keep up with me though!" I just said, probably not" and continue walking back inside. The best part being when he starts his rust bucket. It makes a loud pop (backfire) as he drives off.

I probably would have given the miss america wave to him if I was not standing in front of my house.

It is just annoying. I guess I have a bad temper when it comes to people like that and should learn to smile and give a thumbs up.

All throughout high school and college, I was an aggressive driver. I'd gun it at lights all the time, take corners too aggressively, do stupid stuff to impress my friends. Then when I graduated, I bought a sensible car, and over time, I made myself a more patient driver. I laughed off other people's insecurities and focused on getting there in one piece.

The Z, however, has unlocked my inner child a bit, and is making it harder for me to play nice

Better yet, how about driving with synchro-rev on and downshifting towards coming up on a light..and having the POS next you think you were instigating a race.. >_> and starts reving at you..
