Windows 8
First video for the next Windows operating system.
As much as I HATE to say it, it actually looks interesting. I'm a long time Mac addict, but it's nice to see MS come out with something that actually looks like it is their own ideas.
Plus my nephew works for them so I have to give some concessions. :icon17: |
Oh yea another windows OS
No video of it crashing?

Looks great, it should be a huge departure from 7. I'm not sure if I am a fan of a solely tab/touch based UI experience, I still would like to see a more traditional PC layout personally.
It looks like it still has the traditional Windows layout just like Windows 7. This video just happened to focus on the new "Apps" mode. It's simply a feature like Gadgets or Widgets but designed to interface more thoroughly. Personally I think this whole "Apps" (ipad, android, Win8) revolution we're in is garbage. They make fun toys but if you think they are any more than that you are kidding yourself.
I work IT and people seem to think that just because their ipad has a powerpoint viewer that it's a full featured computer. So then they get upset when the viewer doesn't have all the features of powerpoint on their PC. Again, it makes a fun toy but until it can run a fully featured desktop OS, thats all it is. Oh, and sorry about going a bit off topic with the ipad. You can resume talking about Windows 8. |
I use both windows and mac OS. I actually think Windows 7 is one of the better OS MS has put out in a long time. Lets hope 8 isn't a half a** version of Windows Vista fame.
Looks like its building on the Windows 7 Tablet OS. From the sounds of what he said at the end of the video, this new OS is an attempt at creating an expansive OS that links devices together fluidly. If done right, it could make the slates he talked about quite a bit more functional than the current tablet offerings we have.
Hopefully MS goes this route and pushes it with effective marketing, because Apple needs a nip in the bud. I honestly feel that Apple is sleeping on its laurels with the iPad in terms of what the device can do. As an owner of the first one, I honestly must say it really is just a big iPod touch 90% of the time. The larger screen makes for so much more potential, but giving it the same innards and OS as the other touch devices is blatantly holding it back. |
I am a fan of Windoze 7. I think they learned from their mistakes with Vista and ME (Mistake edition -- omg was that a terrible OS or what!?)
I am still on XP... lol
Looks intersting.
hm...interesting.
This is just one piece, there will be more videos soon.
This feature I think will be great for home PCs or tablets which will provide a useable interface with a lot of information without loading a full program. Also, the new snapping, window resizing looks nice and a large step forward from Windows 7 snapping. For business/IT fields this has nothing new yet for us, I think a Windows 8 upgrade will be minor improvements with it mostly focusing on UI and how users access programs/files. |

and i just got Win7
Yea, I just switched to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit myself from Xp. So far I am liking it, I really wanted to run the 64 bit, but I cannot find any drivers for my old scanner.
printers are cheap... just sayin
I will be in the wait and see mode on this one. I love 7, hated Vista, loved XP, stayed briefly in Milln, liked 98, lliked 95, thought 3.1 was clunky, never really like DOS, have not ever used MAC.
P.S. THe rumor in the IT industry is that Mac/Apple OS will be heavily targeted by Malware and Virii this year and next. |

i like how it looks, def looks interesting an refreshing. But don't understand why they used html5 and javascript when microsoft should be .NET
It does support Silverlight, which is .Net based, and possibly the future of the .Net runtime as well, but I agree adding HTML5/Javascript doesn't make much sense to me in the Windows world.
It probably has to deal with it being an OS that's supposed to run on tablets and smartphones as well. Having it as internet friendly as possible for those devices would be a must.
