You can buy a pack of cigarettes right? Now can you buy a fine cigar for the same price?
Currently you can buy some nice sticky green bud for 40-45 dollars a single. OR you can buy cheap disgusting shwag for well I dont even know how cheap it is, but ITS CHEAP. Once Government regulation comes into play the good stuff becomes harder to get and more expensive. Friends of mine argue that if it was legalized that anyone could grow it. Not true. Do you know a lot of people growing tobacco in their backyards or basements? I don't. Hard alcohol is illegal to distill unless under certain conditions and Homebrewing is about the closest that people have gotten with alcohol. Then again to circle back look at the price of a 6 pack of micro-brew versus a 6'er of PBR.

Although to play devils advocate many argue that the price would decrease because of legalization to nearly the cost to grow it, thus making it scarcer to find because few would find reason in privately growing and distributing it.

Profit is the end to all means in a capitalist society, be it insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies or the individual consumer.

Well said sir... but it would be a first step along a long way... i mean why would the folks doing it illegally stop? even if it were taxed or legalized? I mean you really think they would legalize it and then make the penalties for growing / etc harsher? I mean sounds like the USA but dont make much common sense. Awesome HST quote... too bad he isnt around... would love to hear his take on today's situation :)

There would certainly be a market for the good stuff, so it would be produced. you make some good points and I am not sure about how it would be priced but you have to think you could probably buy a quarter ounce of really nice weed for less than the current street price, but even if you couldn't, the ease of going to the store to buy pot would more than make up for it IMO. of course I am old. lol.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea what 4-20 is.

If it's something to do with promoting the smoking of cannabis & marijuana, I'm totally against it, because someone very dear to me was severely ****** up by it.

Wiki: 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis drug subculture.
The origin of the term stems from a story about a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971.[1][2] The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue.
