Would this make you mad?

I bought my base 2010 370z a little over a month ago and now my boss is talking about getting one. I bought mine pretty much bare bones and i know he would end up getting touring, nav, 19" rims and all that jazz. I can't help but be mad about it, i want to say something to him but i also don't want to come across as an *******. Hes a great guy and i have huge respect for him but its not something where we would work on our cars together or anything. He's not a car guy at all either. He told me the Zs only come in black(mine isn't black) and didn't know they even switched to the 370z. I don't want to be an ******* but i think if he got one it would kinda ruin it for me. What does everyone think if they were in my shoes?

he wants a sports car(more like his wife does) GT-R is too much but he did talk about liking porsche a lot too.

It's a car. Just because you have one doesn't mean he can't have one too!

c41006 05-03-2011 01:33 PM

I would be cool with it but I see your point

USMCASA 05-03-2011 01:37 PM

what kind of boss can't afford a gtr?

SoCal 370Z 05-03-2011 01:39 PM

 Not a big deal as the more 370Zs get on the street, the better the chance to keep its aftermarket alive. Shows a sign of approval that he's willing to purchase a car like yours. You state he's a great guy, buying a car likes yours shouldn’t change that fact. It's all good!

i think its more he doesn't want to spend that much more than he can't afford it. i just think i would feel 1uped all the time and enjoy my car much less. i'm still going back and forth on if i should say something to him.

No need to feel 1 upped man, your car is just as awesome as his would be (and performs just the same). If the measure of a car what type of material the seats were made out of, I would be driving a lesser car than the Z because of my budget. As has been said, its a good thing he wants a Z, shows he approves of you and your taste - embrace it.

shoopajae10 05-03-2011 01:46 PM

say something to him = you lose your job = you lose your car = you sad =(

If you wanted to avoid being "1uped" then you should have got the touring with sport package yourself. Or maybe you should have considered a used car in the $30k price range since there's a ton out there that cost $45k+ new and are just a few years old.

I see your point but if you got the base model it will be "1uped" by anything other than another base model and I think most folks opt for the sport package when possible. You get a lot for $3k vs. the base.

You could always buy some wheels, lower the car a tad and install an in-dash DVD player. Then you would be a baller too. :happydance:

You should spend a little more time thinking about yourself and not what someone else is doing.:stirthepot:

Don't feel one-upped, man. It's all good!

Econ 05-03-2011 01:50 PM

you have two options:

Forced Induction
GTR

;)

MyZ4U2C 05-03-2011 01:52 PM

I would sell the Z and get a Prius and brag about how great the gas mileage is! winning!

SoCal 370Z 05-03-2011 01:52 PM

Look at it another way: He doesn't like the wheels, buys aftermarket, makes you a killer deal on the factory 19". He then buys some aftermarket goodies, decided not to install them, and passes a killer deal on the parts to you.

Hey, I'd be a lot more concerned if he were to sleep with your fiancee, while you're at your bachelor party, and then he appears at your wedding with the same tux as you. That's something to really worry about!

FromG2Z 05-03-2011 01:55 PM

Take it as a compliment....

Then tell him how nice his Z is... how much better it is than yours..... then go on photo shoots with him and his car.

Then ask for a raise.

Taddaaaaaaa

bflosabre91 05-03-2011 01:56 PM

he wont do a thing to it. i would be surprised if he takes it to get washed once a month. maybe im just being selfish but i enjoy being the only person i know that has a z. i guess im not as special as i thought.

MyZ4U2C 05-03-2011 01:59 PM

That will give you all the more time to get your Z going, Hey, at least you have a Z...I still dont have one...so you 1upd me already

kenchan 05-03-2011 02:00 PM

i could careless if someone at my work got a Z or a GTR or any 'better' sportscar than mine, to tell the truth. :)

mainly because Z is one of my important toys, but it's not my life.

Don't think about it like that, man. As long as you enjoy the car and love to drive it that's all that matters.

Hell, I'm driving a Mustang and in general they outnumber Z's most places you go... but I love to drive it so it doesn't get on my nerves to see others out there. Just worry about what you think about your ride and not about being special... that's going to take all of the fun out of owning your Z.

Econ 05-03-2011 02:40 PM

Yea not really a big deal....i bought a Z, my dad bout a Z..Z06 >:I

yah, but in his case his boss will get the top-end model and stick it to him that he's the boss.... well that's what the OP's saying. :D

geosZ 05-03-2011 03:06 PM

I think ur more mad because he's getting a fully loaded and you got a stock one. If you had the fully loaded and he had the stock one I don't think you would have been as pissed. Anyway what you can do is maybe tell him to trade rims with you :).

kenchan 05-03-2011 03:08 PM

let the modding begin! LOL now the OP's going to make up stores he got the base of the base cause he's going to mod it anyways. :D

TheGreatOne 05-03-2011 03:11 PM

I know what you're saying

At the end of the day though, you can say you have the same car as your boss, kinda makes you look better anyways :)

Unless it was a car I was really looking at for a long time, I probably would try not to buy the same car as a close co-worker or boss, that might just be me.

I remember years back an old room mate buying the same jeans as me and then wearing them to where we both worked, car and jeans not the same though lol

Try and push him into getting a Camaro or Audi TT

They are super rare here in Buffalo, where its all cameros and stangs. Hopefully I'll have one by the end of summer and it will have the sports package so i'm going to one up ya! I think it would be cool to have your boss get one...if he was more of an enthusiast which it sounds like hes not. Sounds like he saw your sweet ride and now he wants one knowing nothing about the Z.

bflosabre91 05-03-2011 03:58 PM

i don't mind seeing other people with better models than mine. i'd love for my friend who i do car stuff with all the time to get a Z instead another random dodge car. but yeah, like you said, in buffalo Zs are really rare. I still don't like the idea of having to park my car all summer in the same lot in the shadow of the slightly better Z. Although theres no doubt mine will be nicer and better taken care of in the long run. I have an 04 celica and even with that, i like being able to go days without seeing anyone without my car.

Astrosfan 05-03-2011 04:02 PM

Feel a little 1^ed?
I wouldnt worry about it. It will give you good conversation once he gets "the bug". Plus, its never bad to be on the bosses good side, he does write your checks

Colbizle 05-03-2011 05:08 PM

errrm... I wouldn't say anything.. especially if it's your boss. I mean come on.. It's your BOSS. The dude could fire you if he wanted right? Why get on his bad side?

Also think of it this way. You both have Zs all the more he can talk to you about it and get advice from you making your relationship better. Meaning more brown nosing and better pay? Right?

shoopajae10 05-03-2011 05:17 PM

I seriously understand what you are talking about OP. I had a friend that literally did EVERYTHING I did. So I killed him.

wilsonp 05-03-2011 06:24 PM

I have a Touring Sport+Nav 7AT - do you feel one-upped? Oh, and its Black + Persimmon - pretty rare! :)

If you want to be the only one, you should have gotten an NSX. Not counting VIR, I saw two others in ten years of ownership in my town. I can hardly stand the other 370Z I see once a month. ;) At least its a roadster.

OTOH, just because you see another one every day doesn't make your car that much more common - yours will still be the only one most people see that day.

11Thumper 05-03-2011 06:37 PM

To the OP...

As long as you have a bigger &%$@ it won't matter... :ohsnap1:
