He's the Boss

We've got 2 of the big Bosses here who own sports cars

1 vette and 1 Porsche Cayman

You can be envious-these aren't their only cars

bottom line is the Boss should be able to outspend you and

really should drive a nicer car, don't you think?

If it bugs you, go get a Mustang GT:tiphat:

11Thumper 05-03-2011 07:27 PM

Get one of these. He'll be crying with jealousy...

yakz 05-03-2011 07:48 PM

To be honest, I would straight-up trade my 2009 370Z Base+Sport for a 2009 Cayman S (not just because the Porsche has a higher resale value!). Not because I dislike my Z in any way (in relation to the Porsche. The Z itself could use more torque), but because I want to know what it feels like to settle into that car.

When I bought my Z, the comparable Cayman S was another $10k. Sorry for being a pleb, but $10k is a significant amount of money to me. Info said the 370z was raw and more powerful. Maintenance on a Porsche is supposedly torturous. So, I bought the Z. But I'd love to know just how green the grass is on the other side.

daisuke149 05-03-2011 07:57 PM

my personal opinion is that if you feel that someone else getting the same car is one-upping you then perhaps your insecure and maybe you yourself got the car to feelbetter about yourself in some way? Like look at me im drivin a flashy car.

Yes a bit dramatic i am. but really, you have your car, worry about your car and what makes you love your car. More than likely, if he gets the Z without really thinking it through he will sell it shortly. Its not a car for people who purchase it without really knowing anything about it.

oleg 05-03-2011 08:04 PM

Or if you still don't want him to get one and he isn't a car guy say that you are willing to help him find another car if he hasn't looked into them yet, and maybe you can talk him into getting a g37 or something along those lines.

Dwight Frye 05-03-2011 08:06 PM

To the OP: How old are you ?
Not only should you not be worrying about it, you shouldn't even be bringing it up on a public forum like you need a support group or something.

sonic370 05-03-2011 08:16 PM

you stated in your words that you sounded selfish and i agree............

you act like you won't the only z in your town............

I'm guessing he's 11-teen or something. Honestly, it's totally rediculous to get upset that your boss wants the same car. It's a sweet car and if your boss, the cook at a local cafe, or the grabage man want one then F-ING AWESOME! :driving:

The OP is all bent up about it because for some reason he's tied his identity to the car. I'm sure when he heads out to the local club scene he's wearing ALL the 370Z clothing he can find. I mean hat, gloves, t-shirt, sweater, jacket, socks, etc. He's like "hey baby...I've got a 370Z. Let's head back to my crib" (room at his parents' house :bowrofl:).

As they're walking out his boss walks up to them dressed in a nice suit with cool shades, looks at the girl and says "hey baby...I've got a 370Z touring model with nav and the sport package. My wheels are bigger than his and they're forged. Yeah baby...I said FORGED! Come back to my HOUSE and we'll have a great time."

The chick leaves with his boss and the lonely dude is stuck washing his base model 370Z alone in the morning with his tears. :rofl2:

If someone else getting the same car as you "ruins it for you" you have issues...

man i'd love for my boss or someone in the family to get the same car as me. it'd be pretty nice seeing how their taste in mods are. i dont think you should worry much

happytheman 05-04-2011 12:05 AM

I think he's paying you the ultimate compliment! He's seen your ride, and now he wants one too....and he should because it's a bitchin' ride. Now you two can share Z love stories and enjoy the ensuing camaraderie.

Worried about his ride being "better" than yours? Make it special by giving it some cosmetic mods...hell, drop in a CAI and CBE. Guess what? It'll look better AND outperform your boss' ride. Then who'll be ballin'?

You have NOTHING to be upset about. Enjoy your Z. You bought it for a reason...now OWN it man!

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think you should take it as such. Here is something else to think about... 95% of the people that look at your car don't know the difference between the base and the touring/sport/nav. :)

There will ALWAYS be someone with something better that what you have. Enjoy your path and let that be motivation for you to set your own higher goals. Suspension and wheels would easily put a personal touch on YOUR car and can be done any time you have the funds.

You have an incredible car! To quote an old Nissan ad campaign... "Enjoy the ride!"

RugbyRef 05-04-2011 07:39 AM

I hear ya on that; but it's been my experience that the only reason why 'the grass is greener on the other side is bc of more sh!t' ;)

In the end; you guys have some really nice rides overall but in the end; depending where you are and as time passes the ride will become more and more common. For instance you can get a fully loaded G 6MT for less than a Honda Accord; that being said....they are becoming the new Civic; but....I still LOVE my ride (although I would trade her in for a 370z 6MT most days of the week)

mmmmkay. so after sleeping on it, it doesn't bother me so much anymore. i don't really feel a need to butter up my boss because i'm confident enough that my work will speak enough for me. so i guess we'll just see what happens and i'll just have more incentive to wax and polish my car more often then

I understand how it can bum you out to see so many people with your ride and all. I get that but that is where modding comes in. I think you have a couple of options (other than the obvious of not worrying about it)

1. Tell him about the G37 and how they are comparable except with a backseat and a little bit more room. It's a nice blend of luxury and speed; he's probably not aware how both platforms are 'similar' and all; probably not even aware of the G to begin with ;)

2. Embrace the idea of him getting the same car as you and look to show him things about it that he might not be aware of. It will make you look good and it will allow for you to share something that you really enjoy...your ride.

good call. ive been in 3 car accidents in my life, 2 of them were with him driving.(luckily all just fender benders) so yeah, i think i could take him haha :driving:

pty370z 05-04-2011 11:20 AM

This is why I started modding my Z the moment I bought it.. I like my car to be unique and I knew other 370Z's would appear on the streets as time went by..

I like what I've done so far and I believe it stands out from other 370Z's that I've seen around.. Hopefully I'll be able to accomplish the remaining plans I have to simply make it one of a kind..

It seems like you really didn't want to settle for the Base model but that's how it turned out for you. I know the feeling, because my 350 was a base model and all my buddies had the fully loaded ones. I really wanted to get the enthusiast model but at the time that was what I could afford. The reality is, no one really knows what model you have(besides Z enthusiasts). It's all in your head man. Besides, once you drop it and buy some rims and a few other accessories you'll be able to set yourself apart.

bflosabre91 05-04-2011 12:22 PM

u pretty much nailed it, elmz. i kinda rushed into it and only went with the base cause i figured that would have been fine. knowing what i know now, and how shitty the weather has been for the past 2 months, i would have waited longer to save more and allow me some more leniency. i still love my car but yeah, there are some things i would change.

Especially cat and exhaust. Cuz you know stock, these cars are pretty damn quiet from an outside point of view.

UNKNOWN_370 05-04-2011 12:42 PM

I bought a Z now my father in law is talking about when he pays off his truck he's buying a porsche. He bought the truck cuz his other son in law bought an FX4 F250. So he had to go out and buy a F350 King Ranch With a lift kit. His son bought 5 acres of land so he turned around and bought 15. If I buy one gun he buys four.

In the end its his wallet and life savings that's shrinking competeing with everyone else. I don't really care. I'm happy with myself. I have a beautiful wife. A happy home and a wonderful family. I bought my car because I truly love nissan heritage. I love its quality and craftsmanship but mostly I love its performance. F*&k all other cars. Don't get me wrong. I love all sports cars. But my car is mine n I don't care what's faster or what other people think. In my circle I'm the only one with a Z. Everyone will always know I was the first one with a Z. So let whoever copy me or outdo me with a porsche. I could care less. I'm so confident in my driving abilities that I am pretty sure id spank my father in law in a GTI with a blindfold on. He drives like sh1t. Lol

Remeber this. We all die with the same thing we were born with. In the end materials ain't sh1t.

Why are you mad? Jealous that someone is not deserving? There are a ton of douchbags that have things that people probably feel they don't deserve. If you feel that way someone is probably feeling that way about you. Don't be mad, everyone is entitled. Don't let an outside factor affect your work.
