Firearms questions?
I am currently deployed but about to return home early. I bought one of the commemorative weapons our unit was advertising, which is the SW M&P MOE carbine. I should get it a couple of months after my return. It was a steal for $880 with our unit symbol and mags. I am interested in getting a pistol with the rifle, which is the S&W MP40 Carry/Range kit because it comes with 3 mags, a case and holster, which is perfect for when I go to the range. The reasons why I want to get a gun is because I always wanted one, personal protection and to shoot some rounds off at the range. I have been looking online for some cheap/good rounds. Can some of you guys give me some suggestions on ammo to buy online? FMJ or Hollow point? I am looking at buying the pistol at budsgunshop. I want the SW MP40 due to its caliber and since the rounds are similar or sometimes cheaper than the 9mm. I have found a lot of interest in wolf rounds. I am looking at buying a bulk of about 500rounds for the 5.56mm and 40SW for future uses for the range and since it is cheaper to buy in bulk. Plus i'll use the same stock pile for personal defense. Please give me your input

.223*PMC X-Tac 223/5.56 - 62gr FMJ-Green Tip - 500 rds*A223PMCX
I recommend PMC X-TAC .223 500 round case for $147 is a damn good deal for these rounds. I put almost 1000 rounds of PMC through my AR without any malfunctions. I would stay away from steel case .223s such wolf, brown bear or tul. As for the 40S&W, a good and cheap ammo for plinking you should definitely go with Blazer. They are non-reloadable but they are good for target shooting and shoots really clean. |

Thanks for replies...
MB370Z: What would you recommend for the 40SW? Do you guys think I am thinking too large by getting bulk ammo? Do you think I should order when needed? For plinking/personal defense....is my decision to get the 40SW wise? DAD: besides walmart...where do you get ammo?

I buy my ammo from WalMart only, it's cheaper than the gun shops.

hmm...I got tot take your word on that. How much cheaper would you say? ever compared them to online purchases? What brands would you suggest. I am going to check Wallie world when I get back! do you use it for plinking? would you trust your life/family's life on them for protection? thanks!

Walmart is a good bit cheaper. In 9mm, they sell Federal Champion FMJ for $10.47/box. Online it's $12.99.
In general, I buy any and all FMJ I can find at Wal-Mart. For defensive rounds I usually order.

I'd see some 40SW rounds for about $12-$15 online also. Are defensive/plinking rounds similar or no difference?

Defensive rounds are hollow points that are designed to expand for maximum trauma. Premium HP rounds are pretty pricey. I think I pay around $22 for a box of 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 9mm hollow points. Compare that to $10.47 for a box of 50 rounds of Federal Champion FMJ target ammo. You could still use an FMJ round for defense, though. Just probably not the ideal round.
