People are impatient these days. Ever been in line at a grocery store behind someone writing a check? I patiently wait, but to hear other people tell it, you'd think that the 15 seconds it takes to write a check was the most important time of their life being wasted.

Some here say he's defending his rights. Some here are saying he's an *******. Thank goodness the two are not mutually exclusive!

If I was held up by this I would have called in a public disturbance.

when I was younger I was writing a check out at a gas station and this guy behind me, says to me, "It's people like you, that make people like me, late for work"... i set my check book down, and in a fit of rage, turn around and said, "its attitudes like that, that get people like you killed" and turned back around and finished my business...

I got out side and he saw me getting into my 2001 eclipse(was BRAND new in 2001) and I was 21 and he was driving some pile.. lol

lol, I like that attitude. Like it's your fault that this guy didn't wake up 15 minutes earlier to start his day or, I dunno, buy gas the night before. People are so apt to blame everybody else for their own problems.

Tongman... what is wrong with you?

This guy has every right not to show these minimum wage power-tripping clowns his receipt. IT'S THE LAW. I mean, what part of that whole story didn't you understand?

And the receipt checker who actually prevented him from leaving the store is out of his mind... Even if he did steal the TV he wouldn't be able to detain him. It's people like that who try and play hero for the day that end up getting killed by maniacs. I mean really... is a 200 dollar tv worth your life?

It's just sad that most everyone today is so willing to give up their rights just for the sake of convenience. Just like that loser woman who kept telling this guy to show them his receipt. Yeah it would take 2 seconds but THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

Because there's a time and place for everything. I've witnessed things like this before, and it's usually the person wanting to be an *** more than stand up for his/her rights.

I'm all for standing up for our rights, but not at the expense of others time like in this example.

Who's time was he infringing upon? The receipt checker? Not like he had anything better to do. The chick who was berating him instead of going about her business? That's her problem. The manager? You could argue the manager wouldn't have had to deal with this situation if she had explained to her employees that they can't force someone to show them a receipt.

If standing up for yourself was convenient, it wouldn't take balls would it? In this case the matter is pretty stupid, and I think it's the Virginia law that's out of whack. If you don't like the store's policy of checking receipts, don't shop there. But, since the law says he has the right not to show his receipt, he has that right.

I'm not speaking of this one situation specifically. I can understand why some people think this is a good example of standing up for your rights. I, do not, though.

You say the woman behind him should have gone about her business, but it sounds like she was behind him in line to get out of the store. Now, the store should have just had someone else check her receipt or whatever, but that's a different matter. Yes, she was being a impatient and rude about it, but this wasn't a black and white situation.

You can say he was standing up for his rights. You can say he was being an asshat. You can say he was being inconsiderate to others. All would be true.
