that's not surprising. i think even tokyo has limited mobility. the government has actually recommended everybody take a day off because the limited transportation system can't operate at full capacity.

this article has some good info on it: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...417075308.html

phalen- yah, hope they can recoop that 25% from the powergrid in the west. they seem to have ample power there but the a/c frequency is different or something and needs a converter (which they dont seem to have). im not very familiar with their powergrid but part of japan runs at 50Hz, the other at 60Hz. commercial equipment are only compatible to one of the two frequencies... or something. which is kinda silly.

Disaster in Japan: Country pulls together, military are able to help out people who need it, because no one is rioting, stealing, raping, etc.

Disaster in New Orleans: Well ... Exactly the opposite.

BBC News - Japan earthquake: Radiation levels fall at Fukushima

woohoo! still a lot of work to do though!

kenchan 03-15-2011 04:27 PM

yah, that is good news. hope they can do a full containment soon.

my pops mentioned that people were crowding the local stores so much that him and mom were barely able to get 2 loafs of bread yesterday morning. all dried goods, instant foods are sold out in his area. not that he's worried. his cat's back... and looks :yum: ;)

he can still buy stuff online outside of tokyo and have it drop shipped overnight. other major cities in the west (osaka, nagoya, kyoto, etc) are operating like normal.

I was at Costco this afternoon, and they're now set up to collect donations for the tsunami relief, with 100% of donations going towards that cause. I'm sure many other businesses and organizations will be doing the same.
