well, looks like im going to have to can 4 plane tickets wife and i have leaving for Japan next week for our kids' spring break. was $1000 a pop that was bought before xmas.... wife's going to check into rescheduling latter part of next week. if we're lucky it will cost us another grand or so to reschedule, but since they are cheap tickets worst case it will need to be cancelled with no refund. unless the US advises travelers to stay out of Japan. Then our airline can then give us the option to reschedule free of charge.

im glad we did not tell the kids about this trip... was suppose to be a surprise. :(

i think they already requested for support from the IAEA. as well as a team from the USA...but if radiation levels are really that high, what else can you do?

but seems like you're not the only one with the same thoughts: BBC News - Japan earthquake: Anger over Fukushima evacuation plan

I glad to see Emperor Akihito went on TV to speak to the people.

they have been able to connect a power cable to reactor 2 so that probably means they can start repairing the normal cooling systems.

Michio Kaku, was just on TV. Saying the(all)reactors are now junk, and need to be buried, to prevent further contamination.

Yes they were all trashed the moment they used sea water inside the cooling systems. But unfortunately they need to continue to work to get cooling systems operational to make the site safe enough for a proper decommissioning which takes months.

months ouch...

kenchan 03-20-2011 05:27 PM

Yah, hope they get that contained soon and power fixed from another grid before summer hits... it is nasty hot in japan with extremely high humidity. Elderly will die just from the heat. :icon14:

Just heard japan got hit with a 6.5, and a tsunami is expected.

djpathfinder 03-27-2011 06:50 PM

No kidding? That really sucks! I guess when it rains, it pours. Let's hope for the best.
