MUST READ for WELLS FARGO CUSTOMERS 3/9/11

Not sure if this happened to anyone else today BUT:

So I woke up this morning and like any other morning, I checked my email and I was greeted with a huge negative balance notifier from my lovely bank, WELLS FARGO. I called their customer service line and apparently got some sort of trainee who had no idea what the hell was going on. I had just ordered an ARK Exhaust from one of our esteemed vendors on the Board and was DOULE CHARGED. So I did the reasonable thing, I flipped out, called the vendor, threatening to smear their reputation on the Boards, cancel my order, call my attorney, etc (I'm Sicilian - temper temper). Of course after a closer look I noticed that in the last 2 days I was double charged for 4 other transactions (of much smaller amounts, hence why I didnt notice). I called WELLS FARGO again, got a different customer service rep, and she immediately told me they were having computer difficulties and all the pending double charges would be fixed and no overdraft fees would be applied.

Just a heads up for anyone else who uses this bank. If switching direct deposit from work wasn't such a bitch I'd be out like shout. Their CS is terrible.

Also, a HUGE public apology to FBNISSAN for flying off the handle (privately). They've provided me with nothing but great customer service and low prices. I should've known better

Also, with Wells Fargo, this is NOT the first time this has happened. Looks like i'll be going with TD or Chase.

gotta check mine today, thanks for the heads up !!

Def check your online statement/balance. Idk if this was a nationwide glitch or what. The second CS rep I spoke to said people have been calling in all morning.

Its not a big deal. Most likely those charges are on your "pending" list and not your "posted" list. All your funds under $100,000 are FDIC insured, so you are guaranteed not to lose any money due to bank errors or computer glitches. Quit freaking out.

BLM 03-09-2011 09:22 AM

Hey chief. My balance is negative and my account was overdrawn. I didn't have money for gas or food today. So thanks for the company line. I'm aware of FDIC rules. It doesn't change the fact that this was the third time the bank has been completely negligent and double charged my account. It's never a big deal when it's not your money, i know.

Hmm...was your debit card being declined when used? I wonder if that is happening to others in your area. Maybe someone attempted and successfully hacked into the Wells Fargo network.

It was declined. There were 3 duplicate charges, one was my exhaust, which was $1200. I called local branches, they hadn't heard anything, but the 800 number said people were calling in all morning.

I checked online and there were a lot of reports of this happening with Wells Fargo, some B or A. None that I saw of Chase or TD. It's just a **** show at Wells Fargo.

wow thanks for the heads up man.. I only have my mortgage thru them (not by choice). Will have to check things out..

BLM 03-09-2011 09:37 AM

This was just my checking account (which is all I have through them). I don't know if it would effect a mortgage, unless you have some sort of automatic pay. But it's still worth looking into. All I know is that I'm definitely not the only one this happened to.

TongMan 03-09-2011 09:57 AM

My account is still in good standing...still in the hundreds like always...

BLM 03-09-2011 10:04 AM

That's good to hear. This wouldnt have mattered if I hadn't just ordered an exhaust. It was the first in a sequence of 3 purchases that were double charged, and I didn't have over 3 grand in my checking account at the time, so I was in the red. I would still have been pissed regardless, but the amount of the items that got doouble dipped made it worse.

UPDATE: it's 11 AM and it has been rectified. Must have happened overnight but it ruined my morning, made me coast into work on fumes, and led to me losing my temper and biting off the wrong heads of good people who I thought double charged me. All in all, a very unpleasant banking experience, one that has occurred before.
