Bed Bugs

Has anyone had any encounters with bed bugs?

I have been staying in a hotel room for two months with no problems. A nice, newer hotel, not a crap hole. Then I noticed what looked like a couple small bug bites on my toes. I didn't think to much about it, until I saw a bed bug on my bed yesterday morning. The hotel people came by and changed all of my sheets and pillow cases, and didn't see any more.

From everything I have read, bed bugs do not transmit any parasites or diseases, just a bite that itches.

Am I naive to think that this could be an isolated incident? I am going to give the room a very intense look over tonight.

Look under the mattress...

What fine establishment is this? :icon17:

Check your exposed clothes too and surrounding carpet and plush items (eg. throw pillows)...these things apparently reproduce quite quickly.

Here's a site with some good info:

I would be requesting another room or that room to be clean (exterminator) real good.

And refund or reduce in price for the rest of the stay!

Yep. Change of room at a minimum. They hide inside the matress, behind the headboard, behind pictures, etc. Pillows and sheets are not going to help. Extreme heat kills them, the only sure method, but they will use use cracks and electrical outlets to escape to the next room.

I did a complete inspection of the room. No, I can't see in all of the fine cracks, behind baseboards, electrical wall plates, etc, but there is no signs of live ones, dead bodies, urine/skat.

I do want to find out if there is a problem so this place knows, so they can take appropriate measures. This is a business trip, so there is no money out of my pocket.

i had a bad infestation of bed bugs back in '09 when i was still living at home. started in my bed and ended up all over the house. we basically had to move out of our house, dry clean all of our clothes and sheets (thank goodness one of my good friends' parents own a big dry cleaners) and have the entire house sprayed. it was really, really bad. it looked like i had chickenpox or something. little bites all over that itched like crazy. changing the sheets is not enough, they live down inside the mattress and other places as stated in posts above. insist on a new room and that your clothes and luggage be sterilized somehow.

Never dealt with bed bugs. Had flea infestation a couple of times and that was bad enough. Got pretty good a ripping the little bastages apart though.
