It is with unspeakable sadness and a river of tears that I have the misfortune to say that after a brutal 7 1/2 month battle I have lost my beautiful girl Lilah to hemangiosarcoma.

She was the best friend I have ever had and for the seven years of her life she was my constant companion. Putting her to sleep is by far the most difficult decision I have ever made, but as painful as it is I am grateful that I could ease her suffering and it is a blessing that I could hold her at the end.

My wife says that if love alone could keep a dog going Lilah would have lived forever. No words spoken were ever truer. Lilah radiated happiness all around her and just her simple presence made the world a better, brighter place. It is my deepest hope that she understood just how much joy she brought to everyone she came in contact with and just how deeply she will be missed.

Goodbye, Lilah. You were the best dog I could have ever hoped for. Life will never be the same.

“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.” ― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

All too true.

This isn't the first time I've had to go through the K-R stages over a loved one...but I'll be damned if this wasn't the hardest. Hemangiosarcoma is a real bastard of a disease.

My coonhound, Daisy. Found her in a local shelter, coolest and smartest dog I've ever had (I've had a few). Ex-wife hated her, she didn't like the ex-wife. Should have trusted the dog's intuition.

Dogs were my life for about 14 years. I even trained dogs for a living for a bit. Competed in several dog sports and bred belgian malinois. My first love when it comes to dogs is tve rottweiler. Getting a pup later in the spring. No more competing for me though.

After owning dogs for years, I got a cat. Now, I am firmly a cat person. Way cooler than dogs and you don't have to walk them in the below zero weather here in Chicago. Not a day goes by that my cat doesn't do something that makes me smile. Cats have to be some of the goofiest creatures on earth.

And your dogs didn't do this? Mine always have.

I've owned dogs for years. My gf at the time, and now my wife, brought a cat into the relationship. He is cool and I'm pretty attached to him now. I did pay $3500 to have his pelvis rebuilt after all, even when my wife didn't want to. But he is a little $hit. And that's after mellowing out over nine fuckin years. No more cats.

I just dropped my miniature schnauzer off at the groomer this morning. She is much more photogenic after grooming :icon17:

I had a Blue Heeler about 15 years ago. Smartest dog I've ever had and a great companion. I have an ACD that is not as smart but still has a strong drive to please.

Edit for those not familiar with Blue Heelers: ACD = Australian Cattle Dog. Blue Heeler is a nickname for "merled" ACDs (there are Red Heelers, too).

Just picked up a new family addition. Dharma's only been here a couple days but she's already making herself at home!

I'm a little shocked at how quickly she's picking things up. She's only nine weeks old, but in less than a week she's already reliably learned sit, down, shake, and is letting me know when she needs to go out (which it seems is pretty much all the time).
