Well, if you examine shooting statistics you will see that officers hit the subject somewhere around 20-30% of the time. Thus 70-80% of shots fired never hit their intended target!

I think the G19 would be best. The reason is that the OP is on a $500 budged and a G19 can have a light attatched to do duty at home, and a holster purchased to carry. You can't carry an 870 so well. The G19 will fulfill home-defence and CCW roles. If the OP had a bigger budget, I would say a G19 and an 870P would be a GREAT combo.

Okay... you hide behind the drywall while I hide behind a concrete one. We'll see who gets shot first.

Love the 870.

When I think 870, I visualize the 870 shotgun. I have a Remington 870.

This is why I carry a 9mm and practice often. With the regular practice, I am more likely to hit. With the 9mm, I get more chances to hit (as opposed to a .40 or .45) |

I got one too. Great shotguns, cheap and reliable!! Also there are a lot of "bolt-ons" (sorry couldn't resist) for them. Here is a pic of mine.

Practice makes perfect and shooting is a finesse sport... I participate in tactical tower matches against folks ranging from military to law enforcement to avg joe's like me... .45 is definitely not the easiest for the pistol section especially going weak hand that can be tough unless you train shooting lefty. We shoot at 4" targets ranging from 15-30yds in some of the most uncomfortable yet practical shooting positions you would ever find yourself in. And its all about making sure you hit the target I learned after my first match "Smooth is fast" rushing your shots is the difference between 1st and 5th! I know I got 5th What seems like an eternity getting correct sight alignment is only about a half sec to a sec in real life. Like everyone of the shooters here has said the best way to find the right caliber and or gun is to: shoot shoot shoot and after that shoot some more! Then decide for yourself ohh i like this gun or this caliber the best. Each gun will have features you will love or hate shooting and holding them is the only way to know which is best... I personally love single stage triggers and I HATE... with a passion double stage triggers. to me the pull is way too long and switching from my rifle to my pistol I want the pull to be identical... short, clean and crisp! 3lb trigger pull on all my guns

my fav recently has been the XD40, i liked it a lot but it's not on that list. also, i have only shot a handful (no pun intended) of those guns you have listed so it's hard for me to say what's the best out of those.
