Tips for studying a boring subject?
I have two computer classes that the teacher sucks at teaching and 6 others agree with me. He takes all the fun out of something that should be something we want to learn as it is our Major. We should have hardware to setup with but we do not. When try to study this stuff I get angry and confused because we do not learn anything in class. The teacher just reads off a power point that we all have access to, never asks questions and never does hands on stuff nor explains stuff. Before you say report him, I did last semester. Will probably do that again soon.
Any tips on studying? |
read the powerpoints ahead of time. prepare questions, and ask them when yo uget a chance. make the class interactive. if he is too lazy to make the class interesting, force him to by asking the questions first, or ask for the explanation if you do not understand. don't take the theories at face value, apply them in unusual situations, and see what you get out of it.
i've had teachers that teach classes like that to force the student into taking the initiative, not be spoon-fed the education. study as much as you can on your own and use the class as reinforcement. if you truly find joy in what you do, this should be easy. |
Forgot to mention that, he will not explain something when you ask. INSTEAD you get a story of something he did in the field. We did a test 3 of us asked the same question in a row and he still did not explain it.

then do what you can out of class...sorry, i've been there too.
just don't go down my route and stop showing up to class. i dropped points on quizzes that way |
What classes?
If the prof is a field scenario type guy, come up with field scenarios or him to answer... |

I had teachers like this. It was obvious that I couldn't learn from them in class. One of them, I would go to his office hours, where he was actually very knowledgeable and willing to help. The other one, who I'd failed a course with before, I knew he was a complete waste of time, but that he never strayed from the book materials, so I simply paid no attention to him and read the book, did the homeworks, showed up to take tests/quizzes.
I think it's a judgment call. |
