Is anyone else dissapointed in this game? I'm only an hour or two in so this isn't all necessarily going to continue to be an issue but here are some things that bother me.
1: The AI - it drives its line and if your in it, too bad. It wil just run into you until your out of its way. 2: Disqualifications - Specifically the top gear test track special races. If you get slightly off course or bump another car your disqualified. 3: Stupid cars - VW Van, Toyota Prius and Nascar. WTF, who in their right mind would have any interest in racing those. Its just painful and boring. 4: Little to no feedback from the controller. Makes it really tuff to tell what your grip level is. I'm constantly understeering and oversteering because of loss of traction. I'm hoping things get better when I get into F1 and rally. So far I have enjoyed Karting but thats about it. |

1: The AI always has been and always will be a weak point for GT games. PD has shown no desire to make a real AI instead of its onrails racers. This can actually lead to soem laughs.
2: The DQs are annoying as well, but have also been a staple in special events. That's also how some races are in real life, so I just accept it. 3: There's always stupid cars, but I'd rather see them than 41 Skylines. 4: I haven't tried it with a controller, but the wheel provides plenty of realistic feedback. My biggest complaint are the load times. They're pretty damn long in this game, but at least it doesn't have to reload every time you restart a race. I forget what game it was, but I remember one did, and that was a major pain. I also don't like the way career mode navigation is done atm. I'll probably get used to it, but as is, the screen looks like a slick mess lol. Finally, the car damage is a joke. They shouldn't have even put it in. Ramming cars at a 50+ mph differential only slightly dents your hood. You can still ride the walls, push cars out fo the way, and do every other shortcut without fear of any real penalties. |

Haven't even looked at the car damage myself. Been busy trying to do the Nurburgring Time Trial. |

Premium car. Collisions feel like heavy bumper cars and produce very minimal damage. In fact, I had 3 pretty hard collisions just to see and would say it looked like i had a miner fender bender.

Bought the game, but didn't get to play yet.
I'll probably be just do some trials get some money and race online for the real fun. Wheel should give plenty of feedback.

I got mine this morning. I love it, and of course as soon as I had enough credits I got the 370z. Strangely it comes with the Sports wheels but no spoiler, so I quickly fitted that. And some decent tires because the standard ones suck. It looks amazing in the game.
I'm kinda bummed I couldn't get a Collector's Edition though. I tried everywhere. What's the Apex book like? |

I had to buy the spoiler. I was also surprised that it wasn't included, it should have been part of the sport package.

I think it lacks a spoiler because it is the JDM version.
Anyway after wasting all day yesterday on the game here are my thoughts ... 1. They fixed the control issues using the controller that I encountered during the 370z demo. I was worried it wouldn't be playable without a wheel, but it is fine. 2. The load times ... Ugh... The good thing is that some of the unresponsiveness during some of the screens is due to overloaded servers. The bad thing is that little to nothing is cached so to go back to the main GT screen from a select race category screen requires a reload .. 3. Very clunky UI/Menu system. 10 years out of date at least. Everything requires at least twice the number of button presses it should. 4. Only the "Premium" cars have a cockpit view. What's up with that. They could have given the standard cars some default cockpit -- Even GT for the PSP had a cockpit view for all cars. None of these are game killers for me -- except if they don't get the server issue fixed -- waiting 2 minutes for the server call to time-out when loading the main screen sucks. IGN's review commented that Forza's simulator focused on tire deformation during cornering and GT5's focuses on braking. This seems spot on. If I could sum up the difference between Forza 3 and GT5 is that Forza cars are tight and GT5 cars are loose. Overall still a very fun game.

Not gonna lie...I'm a little let down. I've been playing this franchise since day one, and it's always been at the leading edge of driving/racing sim, but I feel that aside from the physics engine, it is no longer the best. It just seems unnecessarily convoluted and they are trying new tactics just for the sake of trying them. Leveling up? Cool in Final Fantasy. Not in Gran Turismo.
