Anyone into watches?

I am in the market for a watch and am looking to spend about $1500 - $2500. I came across this site called authenticwatches.com which sells watches for a pretty good discount when compared to going to an jewelry store. For instance, one watch which retailed at $2,000 was on that site for about $1,400.

I heard a rumor that the watches on that site are gray market - meaning that they are not fake but since its not sold by an authorized dealer, the warranty is typically void.

Couple questions-

Has anyone here ever bought a watch from that site, or over the internet for that matter? Warranty aside, are there any concerns I should have - for example, is there a chance the watches could be fake? Are they damaged or were they the manufaturer rejects? Its a pretty well known website but who knows.

thanks

BUY FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER!!!!!

If you are spending that much it's not worth it to go online to try and get a discount. If you don't buy from an AD you DON'T get the manufacturer's warranty and you risk getting a fake.

Check out the watchuseek forum... best watch forum there is.

If you don't know much about watches, then you should probably buy from an authorized dealer. Timezone.com is another great watch forum. Many authorized dealers (not department stores though) are willing to negotiate on the price of the watch as well, especially in this economy.

I've seen so many fake watches here in Korea. They range from really cheap knockoffs to some high quality replicas. It kinda scared me because I had planned on getting a decent watch in the near future.

Yes, you can always negotiate! You can usually come down at least 10% on list price if you ask.

There are a lot of high end fakes out there. The most high-end Rolex fakes will run you ~ $1000-$2000 or more... You'd have to open it up and look at the movement to identify it as a fake!

Yep you're right! Sometimes a shop will setup and advertise as if they are an AD and sell high end knockoffs.

The watches I won't buy but I have been racking up on a bunch of suits. I basically see what I like in a magazine, show the tailor the picture and a week later I have the same suit for $200-300.

Use to have a self winding pulsar watch and have a swatch watch for nice times right now.
