Quote:

According to a post on Major Nelson's blog, after eight years' of Xbox Live at the $50 a year price point, the service is finally seeing a price hike. Starting on November 1, a year Gold subscription to Xbox Live will run $59.99, versus the current price of $49.99. One month subscriptions will jump from $7.99 to $9.99, while three month subs will rise from $19.99 to $24.99.

I got an email from XBL informing me of the price increase, but by renewing now (even though I renewed for a year in July), I saved $10 & paid only $39.99 to tack on the extra year.

it always comes down to the money... they charge extra just because they now offer more services that you have to pay extra for anyway.:shakes head:

Then add to this that some of the video makers want to charge extra to play online. None have come up with a buisness model yet, but they are really getting to me with all the add-ons that you have to keep paying for.

Add ons, that I might never even use.

People will pay it, because they want to play Halo Reach online. It is sad, but true.

I am not against services becoming more expensive as they add features, but in this case, MS is doing it all wrong. Had they done this increase along with a big feature update/addition, it'd be normal. MS, however, is doing this price increase after the fact, so it really feels like you're paying more for nothing.

I'm very much excited to have ESPN3.com available through XBL. I use the service a lot to watch soccer matches-- it'll be nice to not be tethered to the TV via HDMI cable.

Remember that Xbox live hasn't had a rate increase since it started 8 yrs ago. I wouldn't might the increase if individual publishers weren't talking about charging for online game play in addition to live.
