Found my project car

Well I just happened to be over at a friend house studying and I never really looked in his driveway. I did today and noticed a 1994 Mercury Capri XR2 for practically nothing he will sell it to me. has like 120,000 miles on it and I think I am going to take it. We are going to clean it up and see how she runs before I make a deal. Take a look! I know not a z but for 500 bucks or so I think I will take it.

It looks like it's been sitting since 1995

bigaudiofanat 08-01-2010 02:37 PM

Only 5 years

Zaggeron 08-01-2010 03:02 PM

Looks in good shape. Don't see those too often.

fairladyZ34 08-01-2010 03:37 PM

what could you really do with it tho?

m4a1mustang 08-01-2010 03:39 PM

Slap a 5 liter from a donor fox body Mustang in the thing. :D

Lemers 08-01-2010 03:49 PM

Screw the old 5.0 get an LS2 crammed in there.

fairladyZ34 08-01-2010 03:49 PM

^i retract my previous statement then, this will decimate all after about fifteen grand and if we have to, over night parts from JAPAN

:iagree:

I would repaint it, too. Get that 1990s blue off that thang!

I'm dead serious when I say that the right color (probably black or a dark metallic gray of sorts) coupled with the right wheels would look pretty good.

Wrap the interior in leather or alcantara so it feels more upscale, cram a Ford 302 or a Chevy LSX in there and w00t!

fullmonty 08-01-2010 03:58 PM

Get another engine 1994-95 3.8L V6s had head gasket issues. with 120K it won't be long

Zaggeron 08-01-2010 04:16 PM

It should have a 1.6L turbo given its an XR2 -- It's a Mazda engine -- the car was from Ford Australia badged as a Mercury for the North American market.

510z 08-01-2010 04:26 PM

Must be the base model and not the XR2 -- Is it a 5 speed or 4 speed auto?

bigaudiofanat 08-01-2010 04:35 PM

Auto :wtf2:

But still will be a fun little car. Might convert it later who knows.

Zaggeron 08-01-2010 04:38 PM

Definitely base Capri. Is it badged as an XR2? Still a nice looking car and if it runs well a steal @ $500 -- granting the sides the picture doesn't show aren't disaster areas :)

bigaudiofanat 08-01-2010 08:00 PM

I didn't see anything wrong with it there is a bit of mold inside but sense the car has not been opened in 5 years I think there will be some serious cleaning going on inside and out.

Zaggeron 08-01-2010 08:15 PM

lol, the mold may be because the roof is notorious for leaking. The car weighs only about 2400 lbs so if it runs well, it should be a fun nimble little thing even in the non-turbo version.

bigaudiofanat 08-01-2010 08:30 PM

He had the roof replaced because of a rip in it before he let it sit. So it is a newer roof but could be a leak.

Zaggeron 08-01-2010 08:37 PM

with new roof probably not ... Mold is likely just from humidity and condensation.

bigaudiofanat 08-01-2010 08:45 PM

Ya that is what I was thinking. From what I saw after a full day or two of cleaning scrubbing, washing, claying and waxing I think it should be pretty clean.

Well put it on my tab at harries.

Jeffblue 08-05-2010 11:51 PM

^Nice car, whats the retail on one of those?

bigaudiofanat 08-06-2010 05:16 PM

So taking this one step further,

This will be my second car.

I have plenty of ideas I can do with this car as far as audio but I would like to hear some ideas from you guys.

Should I turn it into a audio show car and just do a normal nice system in my civic?

fullmonty 08-06-2010 05:23 PM

Nice system in the Civic, make this a track car

bigaudiofanat 08-06-2010 05:49 PM

I would not mind it being like a track car but it is hard to find parts for this car like eibach and names like that I have not seen struts and all for it.

bigaudiofanat 08-15-2010 10:45 AM

Oh and to anyone who was complaining about their trunk space. Take a look at mine. Well similar to mine. I start working on it Wednesday.
