Anyone Open Carry?

I do. Just wondering if anyone else does. If so, what have your experiences been like? I'm a member of opencarry.org as well.

What do you carry? I didn't realize California allowed the open carry policy.

blue660r01 07-26-2010 09:54 PM

Sorry but I wouldnt want anyone to realize I had a gun on me until I had to use it....could just be askin for problems.

Red__Zed 07-26-2010 10:17 PM

I concealed carry

frost 07-26-2010 10:20 PM

I open carried until our new law permitting concealed without a permit. Like blue, I'd rather people didn't know I have it unless I needed it.

I'm with you on that however given that Los Angeles County has been a pretty much "noway are we gonna grant you your CCW" county, open is the way it is for now since I'm not law enforcement or retired military. Hopefully that will change. It can go both ways however when someone sees the gun. Most don't wanna mess with you.

I currently am pursuing getting my CCW however. We'll see what happens.

Yup.. California has an open carry policy and under rule 12031 (e), an officer is allowed to check the weapon to see if it's loaded but that's it. It's still a violation of the 4th Amendment IMO but it is what it is for now...

I carry a Glock 20 (10mm).

Yeah, I don't want someone having the upper hand by getting to it before I do.

I haven't done it all that much but I have had no negative experiences thus far. However I do carry my video cam whenever I do just for the moments I get stopped by the boys in blue that may be ignorant to the constitution as it stands to their municipality. :icon17:

I completely understand. I can draw, drop the empty mag, load the hot mag, pull the slide and draw a front site bead on someone in about 3 seconds. I practice a lot however both with a private special forces trainer and on my own. It's not to say things won't happen but when your packin iron on your hip in the open, situational awareness becomes hightened for sure.

Anyway, I'm not some gun freak or anything  ... I just can't stand the fact that both our civil liberty's as well as the constitution are being slowly smothered right out from under us.

You know there was a time when just about EVERY man was packing heat (openly) and it didn't seem such a big deal then. They weren't trying to do the job of the town sheriff or it's deputies, rather, they were just doing as they always have. Protecting themselves and their loved ones. You know... there's a hell of a lot more crime in todays world and I figure if I can promote safety in the confines of the law, then why the hell not? The criminals certainly don't ask permission.

The problem with gun laws is criminals don't care about gun laws. Gun laws only make it harder for the legitimate people to carry them. You think your average thief/rapist/killer cares if he doesn't have a CCW? Hardy fuckin har. I would be all for gun control, if we could get rid of every single one of them on the planet. But criminals are ALWAYS going to have guns, plain and simple.

That's exactaly right.

I've heard it said this way...

"Seat belts, bike helmets, speed limits, cross walks, child seats, life jackets and the list goes on. Why does it seem normal to societyforus toprotect ourselves from everything but a violent crime?"

Yup... I keep a loaded fire extingisher in my house too. Have I ever had to use it? Nope...

vash_241987 07-27-2010 03:31 AM

Can't OC here in TX, I am currently waiting on the DPS to finish processing my CHL, in the mean time I bought a CCW, a walther PPS in 9mm. Since I got a keg for an abdomen, a slimmer gun would be a good thing for me.

As a Leo in socal, I'm all for ccw for the general population. Lots of studies have been done.... Areas with ccws to puic don't show an increase in gun related crime. As a Leo, everyone gets treated as if they have a gun, so what's it matter? The bad guys shoot like crap anyways. Lol.

Windex_ 07-27-2010 03:42 AM

I wish I could even own a gun... I got informal summary probation for the next 2 years... I have no PO but its still illegal

Agreed. I think statiscally the crime rate is actually lower in areas that have a higher ccw and even oc rate.

Driving while suspend... I got caught three times. first time I had no clue. Second time the lady at court told me if I got abstracts for my tickets she would reinstate it there on the spot. third time my sr22 hadnt cleared, another case of "youll be good in 24-48 hours"... it processed the day after I got pulled over.
I got 3 years probation, 1.5 years suspension added to my 6 months, and 30 days county jail. I managed to get the 30 days knocked down to 7.

There are 40 (I believe) "shall issue" states. Unfortunately California is not one of them (yet!), so I am stuck with open carry only for now until (if) I get approved for my conceal carry permit.

So much for the Bill of Rights eh?

lol @ 4th amendment. I think the point of the weapons check is to ensure the safety of many and damn the rights of one person. I could be wrong...

Glock 20... I think that's what the Famous But Incompetent carry....

specZ 07-29-2010 07:46 PM

In the words of criminals...."Hunting is no fun, if the prey's got a gun". Gun control is one of many reasons I plan on moving away from california down the road.

The "many" are safer just for the reason that a law abiding citizen is carrying one in the first place.

I don't know what the Foolish Boys In black carry. Could be.

I'm not sure how i feel about the opinions of those who believe that, as part of open carry, they should be able to bring guns on airplanes. Doesn't seem like a good idea. If you can't bring a tweezer, you shouldn't be able to bring a gun.

Not neccissarily. A plane has a pesky little thing called cabin pressure. Even if you were act in an effort to save others from harm it could possibly to more damage than good in that particular instance. No reason to bring a gun onto a plane.

Besides.. the point I think you're trying to make is not one of "open carry" rather it is one of 2nd Amendment. And well... since aircraft were not around when the Bill of Rights was drafted up..

Ummm...... no open carry in California. Went through the Police academy in california... not legal. Well let me correct myself, not legal with a magazine or bullet anywhere near your person. Which imo isn't worth lugging around a piece of metal that can't do nething. No concealed carry in California either... I dont know where your living but it aint in california

also I conceal carry a glock .45 and a glock .40 :happydance:

yea, shooting a gun on a plane is like shooting fish in a barrel. You'll hit the one you want, but your gonna hit sum fish you didn't wanna hit as well. That should never happen, I would hate to have sum trigger happy dumba$$ on that plane and give him a reason to use a gun

ur LEO? for what city (you don't really have to answer cuz I don't tell ppl either lol) I went through Fullertons Academy

SmoothZ 07-31-2010 10:59 AM

I always carry concealed.

BTW, shooting in a plane isn't going to hurt the plane. And if you're trained, you won't be hitting anyone else except the perp.

I only open carry in certain situations. Usually if I'm camping, hiking, taking a walk late at night. Any other times and it's concealed; just a personal preference. I don't get into all the political BS / arguments concerning open carry vs. concealed. Both have their merits and usefulness.
