More iPhone 4 issues....

So I got my iPhone late last week and promptly switched all my data off my 3GS and gave it to my fiance and I've been using the 4 since then.

- Yes, I have the "antennae" issue, where holding it in my left hand causes the signal to degrade, or in already-low-signal areas, drop completely. This isn't an issue during calls, as I hold the phone with my right hand, but it is an issue when I'm browsing the internet or texting, where in those situations I hold the phone with my left hand and perform functions with my right hand. Yes, it sucks, and I'm guessing I'll have to cave in and get a "bumper case". Like it needs to be any bulkier.

- The proximity sensor sucks. When the iPhone gets put up to your ear, the sensor will shut off the screen so that your ear, cheek, etc. doesn't hit any buttons. Well, on many iPhones, including mine, the proximity sensor is **** and turns your screen off and on intermittently while your cheek either puts the call on hold, mutes your mic, or hangs up on them. This has happened on almost every phone call I've made so far. I've done all the resets that some people report fix the issue, but no luck so far. It's definitely the worst problem of the phone.

- The keyboard is acting weird. I've had an iphone for a few years and I'm really good at using the keyboard, in both portrait and landscape mode. However, on this new iPhone 4, I'm hitting the wrong key all the time. It's almost like it's too sensitive. Double space puts a "." in, and 70% of the time I hit double space, it registers as a "space_n" instead. It's frustrating, but hopefully I'll get used to it.

The camera is great. The HD video is great. The screen display is fantastic. The speed of switching apps and whatnot is awesome. But after dealing with the above 3 issues for only a week, I'm ready to give this to my fiance and go back to my 3GS. We'll see what the first update to IOS4 gives us.

If it's within the 30 days take it back!!! No need to off start with a bad phone.

Everything I've read says my problems are software related, and they're affected lots of people. I think I may run into these with every 4 until some software upgrades come out. Perhaps I'll call Apple anyways.

Yea, Apple will make it clear if that is a common software issue or hardware. Good luck, hopefully they workout all the bugs by Feb by then I'll be in a position to move to an Iphone or another alternative. :tiphat:

Here's a 103 page thread full of people with the proximity issue. Apparently returning it isn't a fix, as there are people have switched our 5 phones and can't get rid of this problem.

It's much more annoying than an antennae issue.

The issue with it being software is Apple can just say "it will be fixed in an update." Yet they never give a timeline on when the updates will come. I believe it was the early revisions of 2.0 there was a slight problem which was causing connection issues (data), and they said update will be here soon and it took 4 months.

Take it back and wait for the next release. I bet they'll do a stealth release with mysterious fixes of all the flaws. Never buy a 1.0. Always wait for guinea pigs.

I will wait until they work out the bugs. I got until October before I can upgrade so by then it should be good.

I haven't had any proximity issues. It might be my elephant-like ears that keep the screen off. (and you thought my avatar was a stock photo).
Another thing that I love about this phone is that I can hear people when I'm on the phone. I've had Palm phones for years, mostly for the software that I use, and the earpieces on those phones suck major wind.

My issue is my home button doesn't work. Something about it is messed up, and pressing it doesn't actually press it all of the time. It works maybe 33% of the time.

The kicker? Took it into the Apple store, and the "genius" pressed the **** out of that button and "couldn't duplicate the claimed problem". So That ******* sent me on my way after potentially making it worse with the amount of force he used on the button. That marks the fourth time I've reported poor customer service for that Apple store using their own macbook demo station.

The iPhone 4 actually has a much more sensitive home button than previous generations. I hardly have to press mine to get it to work. Definitely sounds like an a sucky issue.

Man I'm glad I stuck with my 3GS for now. I really expect more from Apple than this.
