So, I walked in my house today, and my dog came up to me slowly, which is a little weird because he's normally pretty excited.
For those who have never seen him, here he is:

So I thought something may be wrong since he was moving so slow. As he got closer, the problem was evident. His eye was hanging out of his head.

wtf happened?

frost 06-15-2010 09:37 PM

I have no idea what happened. He couldn't see out of it, that was obvious. Not that it mattered since it was point at the floor. I took him to the pet ER, and they told me the eye wouldn't be salvageable wait until tomorrow and take him a vet to have the eye removed. Then he charged me $175 to put one of those cones on his head and some lube on the eye since it was dried out. So now I have a dog walking around with his eye hanging out until tomorrow.

shadoquad 06-15-2010 09:40 PM

One of my best friends had something similar with her Japanese Chin. While they were out, one of their cats had knocked over a small statue, which hit the dog in the head, fracturing its skull and popping an eyeball out. Its fracture healed, it has one eye, but it is every bit a happy and healthy dog. So, I hope things go well for your dog, man.

frost 06-15-2010 09:43 PM

Thanks man. I'm having the hardest time looking at it. I'm pretty weird about the eyes. I get nervous when stuff is close to my eye, I can't put in contacts because I wig out, I wear safety glasses when I cook bacon in case the grease pops ... so you can imagine the difficulty I'm having with this.

Trips 06-15-2010 09:44 PM

Sorry to hear about what happened and yea the vets looking after your wallet not the poor dog. I can't believe its not an emergency to have it taken care of :shakes head:

Sibze 06-15-2010 09:55 PM

Frost I am so so sorry. I have a dog at home here and I know how much we fall in love with them!!!

I am sure everything will work out though

Trips 06-15-2010 09:58 PM

Frost, if its any comfort? You can design a cool eye patch for him.

I can relate a little bit. My dog is epileptic. He'd been having seizures on and off. Then one night he had a cluster of about 7 in a row without snapping out of it. Of all of the possible causes, I was actually relieved to hear it was something as treatable as epilepsy. But until the diagnosis, my mind was racing.

Man, so sorry to hear this, that is so strange............... still no clue as to what caused this?

HKYStormFront 06-15-2010 10:04 PM

man that's got me down now frost, sorry to hear that about the little guy :(

frost 06-15-2010 10:17 PM

Thanks for the support gents. :tiphat:

And yeah, I've already been thinking about eye patches. More so because I can't look at whatever is gonna be left after the surgery. Maybe they have little skull and crossbones one.

wow man, I'm so sorry to hear this. :( I hope everything goes well for your dog tomorrow. So, how did this happen? It just happen? Did the dog hit something with the eyes? Anytime any animal in pain, I get very upset. Since they can't express how they feel and do anything about it. This is why I'm probably the most ANTI animal cruelty person you'll ever meet.

Thanks man. I don't think I'll ever know how it happened. I thought it must have been a tussle with my husky, but according to the doctor, he's seen (in certain breeds) where a dog can just hit a wall and pop one out. Good learning experience for the dog you buy.

The dr said these breeds with "buggy" eyes are susceptible to that. He said he saw a case where a kid squeezed the dog too hard and popped one out.

Yeah, there is a before pic, but my chick took it. I haven't had the stomach to look at it

I see :)

shadoquad 06-16-2010 09:08 PM

Poor pooch. One of my best friends owns a Japanese Chin, also a bug-eyed dog, also lost an eye. It's still healthy and active today, and every bit as friendly as before the accident. Good luck, frostpup!

frost 06-16-2010 09:14 PM

Thanks everyone.

Here is another shot of the poor guy in his cone. Like I said, it's amazing how high his spirits are being everything he has been through. He's eating, trying to run, it's amazing. Dogs are incredible.

Nick911sc 06-16-2010 09:30 PM

So sorry to hear about this man. It really is heart breaking. I'm glad to see his spirits are on the rise.

SmoothZ 06-16-2010 09:57 PM

Dogs rule. I don't care what some cat lovers say, just because dogs know more happiness doesn't mean they're stupid.

Sorry to hear about the accident, frost. I hope this doesn't keep his spirit down.

frost 06-16-2010 10:05 PM

I'm gonna get him a surgery gift:

Those pictures break my heart. I hope your dog fully recovers and lives a happy, healthy life.
