Phone Battle which to get

With the iphone not coming this year "next year 3rd quarter is predicted":shakes head:

I am going to go ahead and get a new hone.

I am looking at 3 phones and would like some input on them if possible.

1st up is the Droid Eris

Cheap phone and still able to do the things I want.

2nd is the Motorola Devour
I have played with this one and like it. With the real keyboard and the android interface it is pretty nice.

3rd is the Droid Incredible
I have played with this one as well. The only thing I am worried about is the interface and the battery life. I have heard both are a bit buggy but I cannot confirm. Other than that seems to be a nice sick phone with the camera and all.

I would go go for the incredible,, its the newest one. plus it runs on qualcomm's snapdragon 1 ghz processor.

so no matter what updates it will handle it.

Zaggeron 06-02-2010 08:29 AM

I recently got the Motorola Droid and I almost wish I would have waited for the incredible. The other two you list aren't really contenders IMO. The only down side to the incredible vs. a regular Droid is no physical keyboard -- I find it handy, others may say bleh, and the fact that it runs a customized version of Android so you have to wait longer for updates. On the plus side, it runs a customized version of Android and it looks sweet, faster processor -- though the droid can safely be overclocked to match the speed if you root it, and more built in memory.

theDreamer 06-02-2010 08:32 AM

Incredible laggy...lol?
The Incredible is the phone to get right now, minus the HTC EVO4 on Sprint.
The Eris is old and still on an older version of Android, update still in the status of "soon." The devour is a social networking device first and a phone second, so it might work for you if you are on Facebook, Twitter, etc. all the time.

Also, again, AT&T has a five year contract which will not end until Q4 of 2011 or Q1 of 2012.

texasviking 06-02-2010 09:22 AM

What makes you think the iPhone isn't coming this year??

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 09:24 AM

This “For that pricing [on the iPad], AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive,” Marshall said. :shakes head:
Did AT&T iPad deal delay Verizon iPhone until 2011? | TiPb

Iphones are overrated products... trend setters 3 years ago... kinda on the pointless side in today's market.

HTC incredible is where it's at.... or the Moto Droid... the physical keyboard does come in handy every now and then...

but dude 1ghz processor... that alone is enough for me to change over.

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 09:47 AM

Sorry have to disagree with that I have a ipod touch and I love have everything is right there and I use it more for texting than my phone even. If I could get a iphone with Verizon right now I would.

Chupacabra 06-02-2010 10:16 AM

But its the same thing dude.... The new Droid phones will do everything your Ipod touch does... minus the whole I-tunes thing... but I think dragging and dropping files is easier than getting I-tunes to work right.

You can still watch movies... on a MUCH better screen and resolution, you can still play games... (NES emulator, does apple have that?)

You can still text with virtual and physical screen.

and you get an open source phone, meaning all your apps will be of open source nature, not controlled by big brother....

Flash on the phone. and flash on the camera.

USB charging with a normal USB not a proprietary Apple to usb cable. replaceable batteries, EXPANDABLE MEMORY.

Im not saying apple sucks, its just that it sucks.

Yep I can do all that and more on my iPhone 3G (easily Jailbroken of course) :ughdance:

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 10:45 AM

I hate having to drag and drop when I can just make lists and have itunes and ipod sync them. Drag and drop is for flash drives plus all my music is in apple lossless so the droid will not read it. Not to say I am going to use it for music but still.

Expandable memory does not appeal to me either. 8GB built in is enough I know the camera will take a lot of that space. But I do not plan on using the phone for music or movies well maybe one or two.

And the virtual and physical iphone does not have a physical one nor does the incredible the only one that has it is the Devour. But that is not a big deal.

Chupacabra 06-02-2010 10:54 AM

its pretty clear that you are an apple sheeple as with tjlazer... and should stick with one.

Why not go to AT&T.... Its not that bad of a service, might not be on par with verizon, but its number 2 for sure. i had ATT for years without an issue.

plus usually when you get an iphone which is cheap now $97 and the new one comes out you can upgrade for half the price and will end up being like if you bought the new one from the get go.

sheeple

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 10:59 AM

Use to be with them.

No service in my area in the middle of no where.

Wrongly billed almost every month.

Crappy customer service.

I will pass been with Verizon now for 4 years and love them will never go to anything else. No matter if att has changed or not.

With Verizon you get half the price of your phone off of your new one as well.

Even when people come to my house for installs if the do not have Verizon usually they are not able to call but can text.

tranceformer 06-02-2010 12:14 PM

I had he Droid Eris for a few weeks and returned it for the Motorola Droid. I tried out the incredible in the store for a while, I'd trade my Motorola Droid for it if I could, I'm not a fan of the exterior of the Motorola. Stay away from the Eris. I haven't tried the devour so no comment on that one.

Chupacabra 06-02-2010 12:28 PM

The Eris now has the 2.1 android update, but its processor is so damn slow its almost pointless to actually update.

daleks 06-02-2010 12:49 PM

Amazon has the Droid Incredible for $149.99 btw. Verizon lists it for $199.99 on their website.

BoostAddict 06-02-2010 01:30 PM

If I were you I'd get the Droid Incredible as well. I've heard good things about the phone from friends who have it. If it's anything like my HTC EVO 4G (picked up a Google I/O unit off eBay  ) you will be very happy with it. If you need a slide out keyboard and don't mind waiting, there is the Droid Shadow (Droid successor) on the horizon, which has a 4.3" screen and 1GHz processor like the EVO.

texasviking 06-02-2010 03:54 PM

Not on At&t.. now your 3Q2011 makes sense...

Actually, I just got a Blackberry Bold (Blackberry Tour on Verizon) for work and really enjoy it. Very simple, good camera, great battery.. it's at least worth looking at.

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 04:30 PM

The only draw back with the blackberry I see is the having to actually close the program and not hit the home button. If you do not do that, the program still runs and your phone slows down.

XwChriswX 06-02-2010 04:54 PM

After having been with ATT for a year now and the only place I don't get signal is my own apartment, I'll be switching to Verizon in a month. Plus the Droid Incredible is what I'll be getting... I just wish in the stores they had a demo that you could actually play with and use vs. a case with a faceplate sticker on it. Ok, I can see what it looks like from pictures, I wanna see how it operates when I'm in the store... :ugh2:

Afterburner 06-02-2010 05:01 PM

I just ordered the incredible, should be getting it tomorrow. I was with T-mobile for a year so I could get the G1 at launch, but despite their good customer service, the reception is pretty abysmal and made me regret leaving Verizon. Now that Verizon has great android phones I'm back, and the Incredible has beaten the iphone in so many reviews is just ridiculous to say the iphone is still a better phone, and that's not even counting the crappy ATT service. Although I did hear iphone may end up at Verizon too....who knows.

BenZ 06-02-2010 08:18 PM

Can you use MobleME with the Droids?

bigaudiofanat 06-02-2010 11:23 PM

You might but I would not use it if I had the iphone.
